Current Problem - Noticed his casque is turning from a dark and light green pattern to a more tan and at time grey color. Over the last few days I've noticed the back side edges of his casque have no color and are always tanish grey. the front edge going down between his eyes is more grey than previously while the sides of his casque still change color when excited or relaxed .
Hoping its not a burn starting on the casque edges. His spine has no change in coloring like his casque and as a precaution I moved his basking branch down two inches. The basking temp is approx 82-84*F now.
- Your Chameleon - Male Veiled/Yemen. Approx. 4-5 months old. purchased from FLChams. In my care just under two months.
- Handling - Rarely. Handled 3 or 4 times since I received him.
- Feeding - Primarily crickets every day. He eats about 10-16 small crickets each feeding. The occasional superworm is used as a treat once or twice per week. Tried dubia roaches but only ate a few before losing interest. Mostly cup fed with a few crickets free ranged each day. All gutloaded with carrots, kale, dandelion greens, orange slices, and Repashy bug burger.
- Supplements - Rep-Cal plain calcium, calcium w/ D3 and multivitamin. Plain cal every feeding, D3 every other monday and multivitamin every other monday when D3 is not supplemented.
- Watering - Misted 3-4 times daily from a hand mister (saving for mist system for the cage upgrade).7:30am misting is 5 minutes long, lunch time misting and evening mistings are 3 mins long. I occasionally see him drink off leaves but most of the time I hear him shoot him tongue at water droplets.
- Fecal Description - Firm, dark, odorless with white urates. Two weeks ago I noticed a slight yellow/orange to the urates and increaded misting times to the current listed above. Since then, they have been white/off white with each dropping. Has not been tested or parasites.
- History - Purchased from FLChams. Has steadily put on weight since I received him. Shed twice in my care with no issues and is often actively roaming his cage when not basking.
Cage Info:
- Cage Type - Chameleon kit reptibreeze Which I think is the medium size. Plan to upgrade to a dragon strand cage in the next few months as he grows.
- Lighting - Using a dual zoomed fixture. Basking bulb is a 75w halogen bulb. UVB is a reptiglo or repti sun (cant remember which) 5.0 UVB. UVB is about 2 months old. On a 12 hour on/off schedule. 7:30am both lights on and 7:30pm both off.
- Temperature - Basking spot is consistently 85*F at 6.5 inches below the screen. temp gradually drops to 65*F at the cage floor.
- Humidity - Humidity is unknown. I do not have a reliable gauge to accurately monitor this. Since the air in my home is on the dryer side with the heating on, I have placed plastic over the back and one side of the cage.
- Plants - Yes, Golden Pothos which is on the floor of the cage with vines growing upward through the artificial vines.
- Placement - Low traffic dining area. Away from vents. Cage top is about 5.5 feet from the ground.
- Location - Coastal New Jersey.
