Ceramic heater or heat lamp?

hi everyone I'm new to owning a panther chameleon so this might seem like a silly question to some. At night my heat lamp seems to be on quite bright an pascal (chameleon) is up really early in the morning, just wanted some opinions if the light is disturbing his sleep and if he would be better with a ceramic heater at night? Any advice is welcome, thanks

At night your lights should be off and if the room temperatures fall below 50F(10C) at night for some reason you can use a ceramic heater..

In any case lights that illuminate the enclosure, no matter the color, should off at night.

T^^^^ This ^^^^ Chams have residual third eye that can sense light. Leaving a light on (even a blue or red) can disturb their sleep. You don't want a grumpy Cham.

Yes correct. Having the light on at night is doing more harm than good. The temperature drop at night into the 60s is beneficial to the chameleon so having a drop is a good thing. They require darkness to get the proper sleep just like humans so make sure all your lights are out at night. If your house goes into the 50s at night then you might want to consider turning the heat up in your house as that is getting pretty low.

Thanks for your replys. I got told to have viv at 29 in the day an 23 at night think that works out 75 in the day an 67 at night. I have had it down to 20 or 65 to keep the light low but I think I'll have to get a ceramic heater, don't want to upset him.

What does the temp drop to without any light?

Also, the basking spot for panthers is around 82-85 degrees (based on who you speak to and perhaps the breed and age of panther), so the 75 you mention in the post above would be fine for a lower viv temp, but not enough for a basking or high temp.

Plenty of people have outdoor panthers that see 45f or even lower each night...
As long as they can heat up the body to be in the 80's during the day.

Never heard of that. I'd be scared to death to leave my baby at 45 F. I feel lucky that my house stays around 66 with no heat/ AC at night. (On average)

The thermostat sensor is about two thirds up the viv so the temp at the top will be about 80 to 85 I've been assured. My chameleon doesn't spent a lot of time up basking so I guess the temp must be ok. I'll try setting the stat to 10 an see if it comes on, just don't want to freeze him. First chameleon so probably worrying over nothing

Im in usa Ohio, its so cloudy here that we kept all the high tech weaponry here since the spy planes/sats couldnt penetrate the cloud cover.

As for the low temps, just check out all the posts from people in Florida. Plenty wont round up the chams unless they know it will be well below 50 at night.

Don't forget the ALIENS housed at Wright-Patt.. ..I live 5 minutes down the road from the Military Airbase (WPAFB).
