CFL flood light for a basking light

Im getting sick of changing $2-3 halogen blubs every 2-3 months. Would a cfl flood project the same amount of heat?

Im not sure if its just going to be bright as hell and not put off any heat.

Unfortunately this is where you'll need the old fashioned bulbs. As inefficient as they are, they're what gives off heat.

Any cfl will be designed to be low power, and more efficient, therefore giving off less heat.

Agree. CFLs just don't "waste" energy by producing heat.
