Cham color change after butter worms?

Both of my chams ate half a butter each and both of them went from their normal colors (reddish orange with stripes and light green) to this image.jpg I've never seen either of them do theese colors or patterns

If you do a search you will find other instances of butter worms associated with skin discoloration. In your other thread you mentioned cutting the worm open, so it could be that whatever fluid they have that causes the discoloration was wiped directly on them.

Thank u for the links. The coloring isn't where the liquids touched the mouth it's everywhere, but is starting to fade back to normal. This was the second butter worm I've fed them I didn't notice a change the first time but I wasn't sitting and watching them then. Maybe I should stop feeding butters?

Just a thought here but could the discoloration be because of an allergy? I know if I eat fruit my face gets really hot and red but not itchy or anything and the fruit doesn't hurt so could it be something similar since some people's chams get it and others don't?

I don't feed butterworms very often but the last time I did, my chameleon's turrets turned solid black around them! It was so weird and I really attribute it to the butterworms. I have seen other instances on here also of lip discoloration and such, probably posted on the links provided by Piglett. I did not open all of them but I remember it happening to others.

That looks so weird. Hopefully it is not painful for them in anyway or irritating feeling. It has to be a reaction to the butterworms for sure.

I told the worm lady and she's coming into town to trade the butters I bought for baby silks and horns

The female seems fine but the male is closing one eye and I checked on him at 10am and he was still in his sleeping spot. Should I give him a day or two b4 calling the vet? I'm pretty sure he's just allergic. They Havnt eaten today although I offered a few times, but I've NEVER seen either of them so thirsty! Usually they run from the sprayer but today they went straight too it! I'm worried about my little Mal what doin do to help

Wow, that stinks. I don't feed butterworms to any of my Chameleons after what it did to my Parson's. It took a long time for her to get better.

What exactly happened with your Cham cuz mine is keeping his eyes closed and drinking tons of water but no food

I know butterworms are radiated a tiny bit when they are brought over... I wonder if this has anything to do with the allergies. I wish all the luck to your little ones and hope it is just an allergic reaction and everything goes back to normal soon.

Wait does that mean radiation poisoning?!?! Thank u! I hope they're both back to normal real soon

Wait I got the butters from a woman in my area who has a worm farm and grows her own butters so probably not radiation, but I'll call tomorrow to make sure if they were home grown. I sure hope not radiation
