Cham not eaten in over a week :-(

I use to only feed my box turtle super worms and he got a penal prolapse. $150 later he's okay and eating different kinds of food, so I don't use superworms anymore!

hey! my jackson was on a two week hungry strike and it was worrying the hell out of me but i finally got my bluebottle flies in and hatched and shes back to eating. may i add she is possibly gravid. after she ate a fly i offered two crickets and she ate them like she never stopped in the first place.

Felix, were you told by a vet the prolapse was caused by eating superworms? I have never heard that one!

i just give johnjo a good shower and once i put him back he did a poop yay :)
it looks normal brown in colour and white urate so at least i know he is not impacted now and bowel movements are ok.

Excellent
hope you take the fresh sample to the vet for a test, so that you can be sure he's fine.

Im not aware of anyone who would disagree that varied diet is the most preferred way to feed your chameleon (including Brad R).

yes, Superworms can be gutloaded
yes, chameleons like superworms
Yes, a chameleon can survive on a diet of superworms
YES SUPERWORMS ARE VERY FATTY
YES SUPERWORMS SHOULD NOT BE THE PRIMARY DIET
YES A VARIED DIET IS BEST

If you are uncomfortable, go ahead and give in and let him have a single superworm. But then you'll have to start all over again trying to retrain him to accept other prey. Or dont, and just let him survive on superworms. he may not live as long. he may be 100% fine. Its your animal, do as you think best.

No I'm not going to give in It's hard but we have gone this far like you say if he was really hungry he would eat what's offered and I'm sure he won't starve himself to death. I adore my pets and he is my responsibility I will always do what's best for him and I know this is variety so I'm going to keep going. I just wanted some advice and reassurance and appreciate everyones help.

Still no food ?

Johnjo must be the most stubborn Cham in the uk it will be three weeks next Monday since I stopped offering him supers. He is still drinking well and active but isn't giving in yet you would think he must be really hungry by now and eaten a cricket or dubia etc but nothing. Should I go another week ?

Finally saw him eat a cricket :)

i have been feeding johnjo a variety of feeders every other day and he hasnt really been bothered with the supers the last couple of weeks but he has pooped although the locusts and dubias have mainly still been left i havent really seen the crickets so i assumed he had started to eat them again. Then this morning i saw him eat a cricket i was so relieved i now know we have broken his hunger strike and he is eating the crickets :):):) im going to still make sure i limit the supers so he realises he cant get his own way lol but blimmey he was stubborn.
