Chameleon Adoption

Hello, I am a 3rd and 4th grade teacher in a small town in AZ. I brought my veiled in a week ago and my class decided that they wanted to get a cham. So I have been racking by brain on how I am going to get the money to do that. I broke the news to them and a kid asked why don't we adopt a cham like they do with dogs. I was shocked that a 4th grader came up with this and I couldn't. ;p So now I am trying to find a chameleon that would be up for adoption. If anyone has any info on any chams that would be awesome. My kids love chameleons almost as much as me!!! ;p thank you all so much!

Great idea!

I see quite a few chams up for rehoming in the classified section. I know if I was rehoming a cham, it would give me comfort to know that it was going to a classroom.

The problem I see is if you dont have enough for a cham getting and adopted one wouldnt be a good idea because most up for adoption have lots of medical problems. It would be way much more money having to go to vets than buying a young healthy one from the start.

This grant looks awesome! How do I go about doing it :) haha I haven't writen a grant before!!! Lol.

It's easy, there is a form to fill out. You just need to state how chameleons will promote learning in your classroom...charting growth in math, linking to literacy in reading (Chameleon's Colors, The Mixed-Up Chameleon, non-fiction chameleon books), ecosystems and energy in science..... One of the best is talking about the transfer of energy from the plants we feed the feeders to the chameleon.

You probably won't get enough to pay for all of it, I think they give you $150, but it's a start. We teachers are loaded, so you should have lots of $ to pay for it:rolleyes:

Glad you took my advice. Good luck with everything and hope you find yourself one. Your kids will love the chameleon :)

Hum haha....and the local pet store in town are mean mean people. So I doubt they would help with anything...man I don't know what to do :/ and every time there is someone who put a whole set up and a cham up for adoption they won't ship and make it local!! Ha I just need one good break. Lol

Sorry I don't have any advice for this I just want to say how cool it is that you would try to get a cham for your class room and wish you luck in getting one!

Thankd guys. I really have been trying. I don't know if there is much more that I can do. The pet store won't donate no one on the forums wants too haha. I guyss I will have to tell the kids no.... disappointing but that is all I can do.
