Hi there,
just a bit curious about my chameleon's behaviour in the last two days and want to make sure that there is nothing to worry about.
Cage Info:
Cage Type - plyboard on 3 sides, glass front (UK resident!) One of the glass doors is about to changed to screen.
Lighting - 5.0 UVB tube light, at back of cage. Basking light towards the front.
Temperature - temps measured with digital thermometer. 30C under basking, 22C in rest of cage, goes down to about 18C at night.
Humidity - measured using digital thing (as above, does all) between 60 and 75%
Plants - One large ficus which fills about 50% of the cage. Large wood structures in middle of cage, spreading out, quite a few vines.
Location - In the corner of the living room, relatively low traffic, top of cage is about 6ft from floor.
Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - Male veiled, about 12 weeks old, had him about 4 weeks
Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon? Very rarely, maybe twice since we've had him. Started hand feeding two days ago.
Feeding - Fed crickets (eats about 15-20 a day), also had a few waxworms recently. Crickets are fed on bug grub, veg such as broccoli, lettuce, green beans, fruit such as apples and pears (always a mix for them), plus bee pollen and cricket diet with vitamins. Have water gel stuff in there for hydration. Waxworms fed on bee pollen.
Supplements - Dusted with Calypso calcium dust daily, nutrobal twice a month.
Watering - mist him a minimum of three times a day, for about 3-4 mins. Have only seen him drinking a few times. Humidity is between 60-75%
Fecal Description - poo normal looking. Black with white coating. Not been tested for parasites.
History - Has shed twice in the last 4 weeks.
Current Problem - Not sure if it is a problem as such, but normally hugo spends the days sitting under his basking lamp, and the nights sleeping in his ficus, usually about half way up th eplant. The last couple of days he has been sitting on the thermometer wire, which is coiled up on the roof of the cage. He comes down to bask and eat later, and then goes back up, and has sometimes been sleeping there. Sometimes he also sits with his mouth open, even when the temp registers 28C. There is no wheezing or popping. Any ideas what this could be? Should i be worried he goes there?
Thanks,
Emma
