Chameleon bite

Thanks guys! Pretty sure I’ ll have nightmares tonight! lol

No problem.
and if you arent already having chameleon dreams, you have not spent enough time on this forum.
i dreamed a few nights ago that i rescued like 20 jacksoni jacksoni at various ages, that were all caged in one small rabbit cage. (and a dog)

(and i dont keep jacksons, and dont really want them)

My female panther bit me but she woulnt let go and it did hurt. I didn't want to rip my finger from her mouth though the harder I tried to get it out the harder she bit down. I really couldn't believe the bite. Maybe its the way she was a gripping the tip of my thumb. She finally tore off little piece of skin and releases. It wasn't terrible but indeed did hurt.

She didn't intentionally bit me either she gets super excited for feeders and missed so my thumb was targeted. I have not hand fed since and I have to be lighting fast to set a feeder in her cage she came barreling down like a mad cham shooting at first site of movement.

chameleons do have teeth.. lol...

chams can rip your finger to shreds if you're not careful. if they feel that threatened, they will chomp down, not let go and shred from there.

lets just put it this way... kiwi made a decently big rip in an oven mit.

Lmaoooo@ They don't have teeth..Heck yea they have teeth, sharp ones too!!

You ever see an adult Veiled rip into a large B.Dubia?

I have 3 Chams and have only been bit once (by my 4 month old Panther). Wasn't bad, i just waited for him to release and that was it. Might have hurt his pride a bit that he didn't draw blood.

But my adult Veiled i am 10000% sure would do damage. I no longer let my kids handle him. Im sure he'd be having baby fingers for lunch.

Good call not letting the kids handle him! My chameleon is a panther but veiled seem slightly more aggressive..

I've been bitten in anger by my newest guy, who doesn't like me at all, and by a cham who had wandered over into somebody else's territory and was trying to bite another cham. I've been bitten a couple times during hand feeding, when I was captured along with/instead of the bug. And I was bitten once by a cham who seemed to just be curious about my taste. The worst I've experienced has broken the skin, but not worse than a paper cut.

I just saw this thread (sick for a day and couldn't get to the computer) and laughed myself silly, knowing the pictures that were going to be offered.

Shayna bit me once when she was about 30g, and I sort of laughed at her. Then I saw the pics and decided that I should be a little less cavalier about her moods.

Submitted for your approval,
Tyg

Just so you all know, they can and WILL do a "death roll" on your hand if they are upset enough. Skin will be removed regardless of how still you are if this is the case.

My man veiled was 2 months old when he tried to take down the camera and got my finger instead. The little demon tore my skin (no blood, and I didn't move at all) because he was so upset. If a 2 month old baby can tear skin, imagine what a 24 month old giant can do!

my one year old veiled tried to bite my arm today lucky for me he could not fit it in his mouth. but he has gotten me a few other times and it is a serious bite he hates me pretty much lol

You're not kidding, I dreamt I had a cage full of pyg chams and they escaped and chasing my cat true. No joke lol!

i have not been bitten, but every few weeks to a month, i usually use my pointer finger tip, and open my cham's mouth and let her bite down while i look inside her mouth as an inspection technique. it never hurts for some reason, but i guess that could be because she knows me and doesn't want to hurt me. or it could be because i'm a bassist. but i feel like a bite from a small female veiled might not be too bad at all

If the chameleon wasn't intending to hurt you then, yes, it wont hurt. Allowing a chameleon to bite you can help to make sure their bones are nice and strong, but it can backfire.

the addiction is forming! muwaahaha. yea we are those crazy cham people.
and yes, veileds are more aggressive, usually. though there have been some vicious panthers, and some of the sweetest veileds.

This forum is getting quite addicting in it's self.

And arent chameleons one of the only reptiles that acctually chew their food? ( in regards to the teeth delima)

this forum is very addicting. it is informative, enlightening, heart warming, and painful, it also pisses me off when people dont listen to the more informed people about severe issues. but thats another story.
and i honestly dont know if chams are the only ones that chew their food, chams are my first and only type of lizard i will have.
