Those dark spots are an emotional response (stress or anger or excitation).

Is he only spotted when you put the camera near to take his picture or always?

Yeh most of the time I don't know what could b stressing him out, it is a new cage mayb he isn't settled yet? He might not have those spot all the time but he is dark most of the time

Dark Colors

My basking light is away from my chams plant as they light's heat kills that part of the plant, because of this my chams basks in the open and shows colors similar to yours. But once he goes back to his plant he turns light green again. Does yours stay this color all the time?

Well when he goes down to his umbrella tree he does go lighter but never like he is when he is out of the cage

I have the same question! My cham is always like gray and dark green and brown when he is inside the cage, but when I take him out of the cage he explodes with colors such as bright green, aquamarine, yellow, and a little bit of orange. I don't know why! Even in my hand he will change right away to "happy" bright colors right after I take him out. I get the feeling like he is "OH MY GOD YES! Thank you so much for taking me out of that place!"

my veiled used to do this all the time and then i built a free range for him. after about week of letting him free range for about an hour or longer a day he stayed bright even hen in the cage. it can also be settling in deending on how long you have had him.

Ok thanks, well I've had him for about 3 months and he has only been in his new bigger cage for about a week, I think I'll set up a free range and give that ago I've been wanting to do that. Yeh I jut see all these chams on here and there all so bright and I just didn't know what te go was.

once you see your cham fire up they always seem so dull. my vield gets crazy bright yellow when fired up. wish my panther would tho.

I know would b nice, ok so can some1 point me in the direction of a good free range thread? Thanks for the comment

Try a chameleon condo. Our veilds like ALOT of of cover. I noticed that they stay closer to the ground just so they can hide better. I'm hoping to find them some nice full hibiscus plants this spring, they're perfect for veilds because they grow in nice and full and they're edible!

So do you mean put more plants up high? Yeh hibiscus are great I had one in the old cage and you would see all these little triangle bites taken out of the leaves,

My girl Kiwi used to be that way...darker, drabby colors in her cage, then would lighten up green when I let her out. She finally 'grew out of it' a couple of weeks ago, and I couldn't be happier. I just tried to spoil her as much as I could. I'm guessing it just took her extra long to adjust.

So I'm not sure if free range is really the answer here...sounds like you haven't had him very long? One thing about chams, is you have to be very patient with them. Just do everything you can to keep him happy and I believe he will come around in time.

Ok, yeh I've had him since he was about 3 weeks and he is almost 5 months, at what age did yours start getting colour? I'll just b patient and try and bribe him hahaha, I wanted to set up a little portable free range on wheels so I can move from room to room, I'll try all these suggestion you have all given me, thanks you so much, I love this site =D
