Chameleon Follows them?

I have a Jackson Chameleon that's healthy and happy, (never turns brown except at strangers that enter my room.) but does this weird thing where it follows me around whether it's in its enclosure or not. At any given time I can put my hand out and it'll rush to climb onto me, and then just immediately chill once it's on my hand. It's not a complaint because he'll keep me company on my shoulder or head while I'm working at my desk.

I'm not complaining but was just wondering if anyone else has had chameleons that thought their owners were their homebase tree

Hi there while there are some friendly chameleons generally they are the exception and not the rule. First I would look at the enclosure and does it offer the cham everything it needs. A lot of times chameleons will be eager to leave an enclosure if it is not set up to their liking.

Also, many chameleons will appear more stressed or defensive in their enclosure and "seem" to be relaxed when being handled. Just be aware that they don't always feel how we perceive them to feel. Not saying this is the case here, but offering a possible explanation. I agree with what @Beman said about the enclosure. Does it have the right conditions such as secure space, high enough off the ground, not in a high traffic area, etc...

I have a panther cham that seems to enjoy being held. He comes running as soon as he sees me and it isn’t because I have food - he has actually stepped over the juicy silkworms I had for him on my hand/arm or the cup of feeders I’m holding. As soon as I open his door, he’ll climb on my hand. When I’m sitting on the floor in front of his enclosure, he’ll climb down as low as he can possibly get in what I can only assume are his attempts to reach me. I’ve looked and still look to find fault with his enclosure…something/anything that he’s unhappy with, but there’s nothing. There’s no special reward for coming out either, other than just sitting on my hand and having me coo over him.

I witness this same experience with my free range chameleons, not that they´re eager to climb on me, but they seek contact and sometimes sit near you or on you. However, I think is only possible and for expectable if comes from them. When I enter their domain, you can see they´re amused, but other way around they don´t care. I find them very curious and explorative, and let them if they want to.
