Chameleon fountain

Does anyone hear the new product called CHAMELEON FOUNTAIN by biobubble pets LLC, it suppose supplies a continuous flow of water for maintaining the health and well being of all types of chameleons. It also provides chameleons with tranquil natural water sounds. Replaceable activated carbon pads filter the water and keep it fresh.

Hmmm...I've actually never heard of this brand. Waterfalls are generally a big no no and from what I've read thus far being a member on here, it is not recommended. I'd definitely be interested in finding out more about this product from members on here though.

I've never used a fountain for my chameleons. I'm too afraid of the water getting contaminated by fecal matter and dead bugs. I prefer using a misting system. Also, chameleons don't have really good hearing, so I don't know if the sounds of the trickling water would make a difference or not.

That's the exact video I saw,lol, Here is what I wonder about the carbon filter,it claim to refresh the water, does the misting system has carbon filter built in also?

Usually, no filter for the misting system, unless you're using a prefilter to keep the nozzles from clogging. Most people don't reuse the water that drains for their chameleon, so you don't really need a filter, just a way to drain the waste water.

Thanks for reply , what if the owner going on a long vacations and he can't refill the water in time??

Then they would either use a larger container for a reservoir or ask a friend to come fill it for them.

I know waterfalls are frowned upon in this community.. but I had a veiled a long time ago that would only drink from the waterfall.. it was a repti rapids and I placed it about halfway up a custom wooden cage in the corner.. there was vines right in front of it for him to climb over to it and drink but I didnt have vines above so it nearly eliminated any fecals ending up in it... there was the occasional, and you had to deal with dead crickets in it.. but other than that it splashed so much water out I had to fill it up nearly every day anyways.. so it was almost always new water.. but like I said he wouldn't drink from the dripper or when I misted.. so in that scenario the waterfall was great.

I have a mistking system on two cages, the pump is hooked up to a 5 gallon water bottle filled with purified water, it last me a little more than a month doing 6-30 seconds mistings thru out the day

And i have a cage with many crickets hooked up to both cages thru a little tunnel like acrilic tube which crickets find and go into cages, so i take long vacations, lol

Yup ,yup, you are a great trainer for your chameleon, not their pets , I'm trying to teach mine to drink the water on their own and so far I saw this chameleon fountain without pressing a button like the human water fountain,all they have to do is step in and open their mouth,and say " water me please "

Yup Yup--THAT'S CLEAVER , I had a thought about the live insect divider ( like the human vitamins pill box divider) just in case they ate too much and became a supersize chameleon which probably leads to other health issue. The only question is how many crickets will invade their night time space when they go nightnigt

A few concerns with this design...

The "tranquil water sounds" will be wasted, as chams don't hear anything other than very low frequency vibrational sounds. The manufacturers of this fountain know NOTHING about cham biology.

The activated carbon pad filter may not be able to cope with the bacteria load of dead feeders, leaves, or fecal matter than happens to fall into the water. I'd suspect the filtration is designed to handle small bacteria loads (such as when the water gets stale, exposed to dust, or when a pet drinks out of it...you know, the similar types of fountains for cats and dogs) without completely clogging up. One dead feeder could create a noxious water source very quickly.

Depending on how easy the fountain's surfaces are to disinfect or clean, it may end up being a hassle to maintain over time. Same problem most keepers find with the terrarium waterfalls/fountains on the market. Someone will still have to keep the reservoir clean and filled.

Just because you put a fountain in a cham cage does not guarantee your cham will use it. They have to learn its a source of water, and many chams never do. If the water circulating in this fountain doesn't happen to move enough to attract the cham's attention (they are attracted to the glistening of moving or dripping water) it will end up being a waste of money.

And, one of the main reasons we mist our chams is to provide cage humidity. This fountain won't really do this so someone would have to mist it anyway. Or, you'd need a auto mister setup in addition to the fountain. It won't really replace that.

It won't really replace that.[/QUOTE] Yup yup, I just want to say that I love this forum, it makes me feel like I'm attending the college of chameleon, that was some really good info I got from everyone,now the only question is Can I connect the mist system direct from my faucet with a timer,so it will constantly have the freshwater without running out the freshwater and also wont over spilling the cage while I can have some PERSONAL SPACE and traveling time without divorcing my lovers(chameleons)

Yup yup.....I have been doing that, I been carrying 2 buckets of water every 3 hours just to please my lover chameleon,and I want to find a solution to have some quiet traveling time.....thanks for the reply tho.

Chams are simply a pet that requires some daily attention. If you really plan to travel one of the best things to arrange is a friend or neighbor who is willing to check in on your cham while you are gone. You can't automate every aspect of their care, so find one or two people and train them before you need them. And, write out a good explanation or checklist of what they would need to do and leave it by the cage with your contact info in case there are questions or problems. Also, get a relationship with a vet set up ahead of time just in case.

I bought a couple of these with hopes my Parson's would drink out of them. I've only tried it with one chameleon and so far she hasn't drank for it as far as i've seen. I think if I can get them to drink out of it it would be great. Parson's need tons of water and that's not always easy with their indoor cages in the winter.

Chams are simply a pet that requires some daily attention. And, write out a good explanation or checklist of what they would need to do and leave it by the cage with your contact info in case there are questions or problems. Also, get a relationship with a vet set up ahead of time just in case.

Yup yup...AHH you read my mind and CHAMELEON SITTING will be a brand new business for those needs to travel often,it will be much easier than BABY SITTING cause you dont have to burp them or change the diaper only clean the poo poo,and water them like a flower
