chameleon hatchling

I had veiled eggs hatch this week and I have one acting weird. He turned dark brown after chaning the paper towel in his change. he keeps curling up and apears dead but then will move after. what is going on? I put tons of food but do not know if they are eating. i put in pinheads and similar sized roaches for variety. I have to order flies but I have to wait on shipping. What do I do?

Are you keeping them hydrated? Misting is a must, babies dry out quick. Are your temps Ok? Maybe he's playing 'possum? I think they will do this as a defensive mechanism. Just my two cents. Good luck.

I had babies that would do this, but turned out fine. If they are older than 3-4 days they should be devouring any insect you put in the cage. What temps do you have them at?

I thought he might be scared. I mist them 3 to 4 time daily and their temp is about 80 to 85. I have it in with 3 others. Could that bother him? They are in a critter keepertogether. Not the really small one but a 1 gallon to 2 gallon one. He becomes active after I hold him for awhile become light brown with a hint of green. He is scaring me.

They are usually fine with others at this age. Temps sound good, misting sounds good. Do you have a piece of fake plant in there for them to hold on to? They do not eat much for the first several days then BAM-they are eating machines! Pinhead crickets can get out of almost any container.

I make sure the crickets can not get out and I keep fake and some real pothos plant leaves. He seems fine. I did place him in his own cage and put the other 3 in a larger cage. He perked up and turned back green. So maybe it needed more room. Not sure. I know they are scared and they were crawling on top each other sometimes. So maybe he was being bullied in the cage. I'm not sure but this solution seemed to make the little guy happy so I am good with that. I just worry too much. They are like little children to me.
Thank you everyone for your feedback and suggestion. It really helped to know that someone has seen them do this. I thought the little guy was dead. I put him back hoping. I'm sure glad I did.

Next thing you know you have this!

She will lay eggs, but they won't hatch unless you mate her.

Pretty sure they can retain sperm mind.

I have had my baby veileds do the exact same thing recently. We thought it might be because they we were taking them out of the incubator to quickly after they hatched, so the next one's that hatched we left in there for a few more hours (to soke up more water I guess) and that seemed to help, might have been coincidence though.
All the dark babies turned out fine either way though.

ive also had this with my yemen hatchlings,i think it is to do with stress.
i normally just pick the baby up and put it back on a branch,5mins later the baby will be fine and back to his/hers normal colour.

I tried moving him but he would freak out and go back to the dark ball pose again. I put him by himself and he is back to normal. It might have been too much for the little guy being with 3 others. Thank you for all the help. I hope not all of them hatch this next week. All those babies at once is crazy. They must have triggered all the others. Good luck with the babies. I already had an escapee today. One climed the thermometer cord and went on an adventure. I found him though. Thank goodness. I was so worried.

Veileds usually do hatch pretty close together, unlike Panthers that hatch months apart sometimes. Get ready-they eat like crazy-with 69 I went through a few thousand large pin heads a week!

I just wanted to say that this thread has been very helpful. i printed it out and saved it for when i have babies so i can look back at this thread. It has been a lot of help. Sorry if i hijacked this thread, i didnt mean to:l
