Chameleon hiding

Hey I've only had my Cham for 3 weeks but every time I sit in my room to do homework he hides. I was wondering if there's any tips to prevent this? Just want to see him more active in his enclosure while I study. If not that's fine. Thanks!

Just sit in the room and ignore him as much as you can. He will eventually get used to you. Right now he sees you as a predator but if your in there and not pissing him off he will eventually say this guy is all right. What ever you do do Not try and force yourself upon him. If you force him on your hand and do stuff that pisses him off he will just be more and more afraid of you.

Ok, thanks! It is so hard to not watch him lol

My new guy has never hid from me since the day we got him (only a week and a half ago). I have not attempted to handle him yet and, if I slowly place my hand near him he doesn't head for the hills either. Maybe my breeder handles their babies.....I dunno?

Mine was like that too until last week when I took him out (on one of his pathos plants) to clean his cage and now he doesn't dig me :(

Just curious, how long did it take for either of your Chams, or anyone's on this forum to be more confident around them (cup feeding, not hiding, etc.)?
Mine is not real comfortable with me. If I am in the room he does not care but if I open the cage he gets a little nerves. He will still eat out of my hand but if I get to close he will let me know it.

Hello I'm a brand new member and my little guy is 3 -4 months old and doesn't hide from me really at all. for the past month of owning him I've noticed how sometimes hell head the other way or kinda hiss at first but once he's grabbed on to me he does great going finger to finger and never acts timid toward me when I do handle him. I was wondering if this was bad at his age should I backoff a little? What's the best way to kinda ensure he likes to hang out of the cage? Is he always kinda absolutely hate the spray bottle?

Obviously it's going to vary widely based on your own cham and your ability to read his language. Give him time, and you will both learn. Mine will do anything for a treat!

best trick is.. u go up-close only when u feed him... its like having a treat every time u come near....;)

For me personally I'd say it took about a couple of weeks? Like in the first week or so he got comfortable with me being in the room with him and coming out to eat, then it took another week or so for him to feel comfortable sitting on his cage with the door open with me in the room, another week or so for him to roam the room without ducking down every time I reentered the room. And then repeat once I took him downstairs to where I used to keep all his plants. He used to just stay in one spot for a long time and freeze every time I came near but as the weeks went by he got more confident with hay too and started moving around freely. Lol. So honestly that's more like a month or so lol. But every chameleon is different. You just have to find out what their limits are and work with what they want. They have the same mentality as a cat (approach when needed).

You can try letting him crawl on your shoulders while you spray the cage that way he won't be in fear of it. After doing this for a while he'll either realize "holy crap it's raining and I'm parched" or you could place him back in there after you're done misting. This doesn't always work but maybe try it? Also you could try squeezing the spray bottle a little softer making the drop come out a bit smoother.

Make sure you try to appear less as a predator. Predators look directly at the animals they intend to eat. Look at him more out of the corner of your eye, not directly into his face.
