Chameleon night Hike in Malta

So last weekend me and my gf planned a night hike in the north of the Island known as Mizieb which is woodland . We took a couple of torches with us and were amazed at how many chams we saw in not such a large area.

We spent about 2 and a half hours and we counted 40 ! That is nearly one every 5 minutes !! If it were during the day we would have been lucky to see 4!!

we noticed that a lot of them were found sleeping at the bottom of the trees where there is more coverage ....enjoy !

WE CALLED THIS GUY STILTS :) ...

OUR COMPANION TAGGED ALONG TOO ...

I have to say this was really great experience seeing wild chameleons thrive in their natural habitat. It also confirmed a point for me ...cover is important .

What a cool thing to be able to do! It is amazing how prevalent they are at night... They must climb further up in the trees during the day, or maybe they are just better chamo-flaged during they day. I sure wish I could do this!

Thanks....

I do feel lucky indeed to have experienced that !

There is such a tranquil and creepy vibe in the woods and it is soooo unbelievable how many there are in short distances between one and another..I had the idea that they cross one another every month or so but when I saw the numbers > I`m sure they cross each-other every couple of days.

natural cage

Wouldn't it be nice not to have to purchase chams, in order to enjoy them. No feeling guilty about their enclosure , or oops I forgot to mist or dust. Just walk around outside and enjoy your collection. Sit for hours outside, watching one particular cham do his/her thing. Lack of stress colors or enjoying watching them flare natural stress colors. Just the purity of the situation and opportunities it offers. Makes my head hurt thinking about it.

yes that is true ....my belief is that I feel less guilty if they are captive bred like most of them are
