hi I just got a vield chameleon names dexter he's about 5 months and I have some question about him.
- he lives in mesh cage 16"x16"x30"
-eats crickets, super worms, mealworms all with calcium
-gets sprayed 3 times a day and has a bio bubble waterfall
-have small humidifier on top that flows in smoke
- zoo med uv and heating light kit and 60w karmic heat emitter
I don't know If my chameleon is getting enough water or too much?
he opens his mouth sometimes when I come around and makes like a wearing noise and its like a Yawn so I looked in the back of his through and theres no white bubbles so maybe he's just yawning
-I set up a new waterfall for him to drink out of and I don't know if he's using it or not. I try and give him water with my sprayer and he drinks from that in the past when I didn't think he was using his dripper and he would drink from that but he's not doing it so I'm assuming he's not thirsty and he's using it.
- also how to I tell the sex
- hes eyes aren't sunken in and he has strong grip and very active

Here is the veiled care sheet. I would also read everything under the resources tab.
I would get rid of the water fall they are full of bacteria.
Males will have spurs on their back feet.
Best way to tell if they are getting enough water is to check their urates. They should be all white.

Also watch the mealworms. Their shells are harder to digest for chameleons, I'd stick to superworms instead. Make sure that in addition to your regular calcium, your cham is also getting his multivitamins and D3 intake. You can achieve this through an all-in-one (Repashy offers a couple that work well for chams), or alternate with multiple supplements on a schedule.

Keep an eye on the humidity with his fogger. Too much humidity constantly can have a negative effect and take form in Respiratory Infections. Let the cage dry out a few times a day, and make sure that there's no cold air blowing on him when the cage is wet.

Listen to these people^ based off your profile pic, you have a she. Which means you'll need a laying bin. You also need to be supplementing correctly, take a look at the care sheet. Superworms are okay as treats, mealworms are pretty much never worth feeding although it won't kill them if they have a couple a month. I personally won't feed them. Crickets need to be gutloaded properly. I'd look to adding roaches, silkworms, hornworms, butterworms, and black soldier fly larvae at least. There's others though. Your cage will probably be too small for her as an adult. Get rid of all the waterfall crap. Mistings should be at least 10-15 min a day imo. I like about 10 min in the morning when lights go on and then another two mistings for 2 min each. Don't mean to be hard on you, we all had stuff to change coming here don't take it personal. Welcome and goodluck!
