I have a male veiled chameleon that's about 6 months old. He has been doing things not normal for him? he has been eating less. only eating when the cricket it literally right in-front of him and he doesn't have to move to get it. I also have to hold his water dripper right in-front of his face so he can drink, and when he drinks. he does it a lot so i figured oh he's just dehydrated. I wrapped saran wrap around the sides of his cage for better humidity and spraying his cage 3-5 times a day and am giving him water constantly but hes still not eating. I'm really worried because he's loosing weight. He is also sneezing? I haven;t really seen him but i hear a sneezing sound and look over and it looked like his head is down because he just sneezed. Please help me i want to know what's wrong with my cham!

What uv bulb have u got in there. If its a coil one he is likely to get mbd they are really not that good for chameleons. Maybe better posting what supps ure giving him and also what lighting ure using. A pic of his poop also might help others that know more to give u a better idea of what is wrong with him.

What's the temperature in the basking area? The rest of the cage? Where is the cage located? Near a window? Door? Vent? Fan? On the floor? A stand? Are the lights off at night? How long do you mist for at each session?

What supplements do you use and how often for each of them? What do you feed/gutload the insects with?
SPECIFIC answers will help us figure out what's going on.

his basking area is around 84 the rest of the cage is about 70. the cage is located near a door (see picture) it is on a stand
i mist for a minute now, it really stresses him out though he runs away.
i use calcium w/out d3 everyday and a multivite mixed with calcium with d3 twice a month.
i gut load with clementines, apples and carrots

The door is fine..I was concerned about outside doors...drafts.
What form of vitamin A is in your vitamin powder? Beta carotene, retinol, etc?
I would replace the blue light with a regular white incandescent household bulb for basking and when the UVB is old enough to be replaced replace it with a long linear reptisun 5.0.
Urates are too yellow....I would increase the length of time you do each misting and run the dripper longer too.
As for the coughing...are you sure it's coughing? Not a sort of hissing?

i just went to the store and bought a normal white light for his heat source. I still have about 6 months until i can get a new uvb though. his multivitte has beta carotene. i bought it so he wouldn't have to risk vitamin a toxicity. The sound kinda sounds like a hissing? its like a hiss/sneeze at the same time. He moves like he is sneezing but it kind of sounds like a breathy hiss

its been a couple days and the sneezing stopped. he still does the weird movement but theres no sound. He is not eating though. He misses crickets when he rarely tries to eat them and after one try gives up. He's drinking still but only when i put the tube by him..

Will he eat if you hand feed him? Or feed him with tongs? It might make it a little easier for him to see and he won't have to chase his food. It might also help if he is missing his shots with his tongue.

he is scared of the tongs and wont take the food

Yeah I thought that would happen since my cham is also scared when I even open the door to her cage. Well, maybe just give your cham constant access to food because unless it has something internal going on it should get over whatever has caused it to hesitate. He might just need a little practice. Keep us updated

update: My cham is eating, i think the crickets are dissapearing so i assume that he's eating them but they could be hiding which worries me. Something new started happening though. I noticed that one of his eyes were closed but would open when I would walk by him. I couldn't get a picture, but no he closes both of his eyes and open them when im near his cage. What do you think this is?

Heu guys I have another health concern...My chameleon's eyes are closed 100% of the time even when he tries to run away his eyes stay closed so he never knows where to go and I have caught him on several accounts because he'll walk off a branch. He doesn't move unless disturbed. Eyes closed= no food. He's also not eating I've tried all sorts of tricks and nothing. He also has been hanging out on the screen of his cage recently. I'm so worried about him, he's getting very skinny. I live in AZ

It sounds like things have only been getting worse. Please get him to the vet ASAP! He definitely needs help

He is going to need force feeding. At least call the vet and see if they have any suggestions. They will usually do a recheck appointment at a reduced rate if it is for the same unresolved problem in a reasonable amount of time.

Is he drinking? If he is when his mouth is opening and closing then stick a cricket BETWEEN his teeth so he bites down on it and hopefully chews it and swallows it if this doesn't work, try this...

What multivitamin do you use?

Is he still hanging his head down? When he does it is his mouth open? Tongue sticking out a bit like he's gagging?
