Chameleon Shower?

Hi, I had a quick question regarding showers for a chameleon. My guy is about 6.5 months old and I saw that showers can help to drastically change a chameleons mood. Some have said that they will sometimes get conditioned to come out of cage to get on hand in order to get to the shower and therefore be more tame/ tolerant of handling.

Could I run a mixture of purified cold H20 as well as boiled water H20 (from a water boiler) to give him a shower with? Or would that not be good for my hibiscus and pothos in my cage? I have adequate drainage. I just don't want to give a shower in my shower, as the shower water is not purified, and Omaha NE does not have the best tap water.

If you can drink the water, it is safe to let your chameleon shower in it. I shower my chams in regular tap water, but there mister runs off of a r/o system.

Omahas water is fine comparatively. Are you on the city of Omaha supply? If so, I wouldn't worry about it.

Each water department is required to publish a wafer quality report regularly. It should be on their website. Its a bit complicated as there is a lot of information on there, but everyone sold learn to read them.

A good thing to remember is that boiling will only remove some biological contaminants, not minerals or heavy metals. Additionally, boiling to remove chlorine or cloramines takes far longer than most people realize.

Many purified and bottles waters are no different from most tap water. Some even contain higher mineral levels for taste.

Looks like fertilizer and industrial runoff do give you some higher levels of some chemicals. I bet there are certain months where levels are significantly higher than others due to the agricultural season.

You can always call the water department and ask to soak to someone at the plant that supplies your water. Usually once your get ahold of someone, they are very nice and will be more than happy to described the process to you and usually know when then have higher chemical and filter requirements to maintain easter quality.

There are also filters that you can attach to your shower head that will help with some of the chemicals.

Great to know. Thanks for the info! I'm not too worried then about the water not being unsafe, but I may give a ring to the water plant
