Chameleon sleeping during the day.

Chameleon Info
  • Your Chameleon - Jackson Cham, M, and about 6 or 8 months. I got him a few months back.
  • Handling - Very rarely, only when I notice something is odd with him. About 1 to 3 times twice a week?
  • Feeding - Vitamin/gut loaded crickets or worms from Petco.
  • Supplements - Repti Vitamins and calcium.
  • Watering - Dripper, and an automatic humidifier.
  • Fecal Description - Usually Pinkish, but most of the time dark brown.
  • History - He is shedding still, and barley eats anything. Before shedding he ate regularly. But when he started to shed, he didn't want to eat at all.

Cage Info:
  • Cage Type -
    Zoo Med Repti Breeze Chameleon Kit, 16" L X 16" W X 30" H, 16 IN
  • Lighting - What was in the Zoo Med repti kit.
  • Temperature - 80 to 70s.
  • Humidity - In the green.
  • Plants - Plasic ones, they are vines.
  • Placement -Corner of the room near the window.
  • Location - New Jersey

Current Problem - He is shedding, and hasn't been eating. But he is usually moving around the cage and is active. He still responds to touch, and will react as normal if he doesn't want to be bothered. (like hissing). But today I saw that he was sleeping during the day. He is still shedding, and still hasn't eaten yet. I tried different feeding bugs, but he doesn't want them. Any advice on what could be wrong or what to do? I did read the care sheets, and made sure I didn't over dose him and that the temps are good for him. Even when I try to touch him now, he does move away and respond as usual, opening his eyes even.

How many times are you using the multivitamins, they should only be used twice a month, and for the calcium? Calcium without d3 6 days a week, and calcium with d3 twice a month? Usually when they are shedding they typically lose their appetite until done shedding, so sometimes they wont eat as much or anything during their shed.

Haha yes, but yeah my cham does it too when he was shedding the other day. They wont eat much sometimes nothing at all. After their shed they should start eating again :D
 
Sorry i forgot to mention the sleeping during the day... it's not a good thing definitely what everyone at the top said, take him to a vet.
 
Can you elaborate on what the facals look like? There should be a light and dark part. The light part is white urate in healthy Cham.
 
It's sometimes pink, with the white stuff around it. He is still responsive when touched, he seems to be sleeping right now.

Looks dehydrated but the sunken eyes could be caused by other things. Pink is not a good color to describe a chameleons feces and is alarming. Could be parasites.

Supplements need to be adjusted for a jacksons chameleon. This is from the caresheet found in the Resource section of the forums...
Supplementation:
Calcium and other vitamins are very important to your chameleon's health. Feeder insects should be lightly dusted with powdered supplement before being fed to your chameleon. As a montane species (native to higher altitudes) Jackson's have decreased supplementation requirements compared to tropical species due to metabolism differences. Use calcium (without D3 or phosphorus) twice a week, a multivitamin once a month, and calcium with D3 once a month.

Overall, I agree with needing a vet visit ASAP. In the mean time, read over the caresheet on this forum and adjust your husbandry accordingly.

I hope you mean a mister since a humidifier is no replacement for a mister at all. It's not the same, it alone will not hydrate your chameleon sufficiently, also not with a dripper added. You need a mister (like a mistking).
Jacksonii is a montane species, they require increased humidity... Also less of all supplements, multivitamin 1x a month should be sufficient and if your multivit has D3 in it already don't use calc+D3 ever, just dust with calc only.

Odds are your animal right now is severely dehydrated and he will need to see a vet to have a chance.

He is either severely dehydrated or something is wrong internally you need to take him to a vet ASAP! His eyes are really sunken in. The photo attached is a healthy Jackson look at his eyes and you will see the difference.

My male veiled did the SAME STUFF.
He developed clogged tear ducts. Which is a common problem in chameleons. Except there was more too it (all of this happened because of a poor previous owner).
He had a full on eye infection that later spread to his whole body in a matter of a week. I’m not at all diagnosing your cham, but the similarities are extremely similar.
SEE A VET. DONT LET IT GET WORSE. ASAP!
No matter what the issue is, see a vet.
