Chameleon Sleeping Durning the Day

Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - Veiled Chameleon, Female, 1yr old, 8 months in my care
Handling - little to none
Feeding - Mainly Crickets 8-10 every day some wax worms 3-4(once a week) Gel green stuff for gut load
Supplements - d3, multivitamins every other week
Watering - Mist King hourly mistings for 30-45 seconds, dont see her drink very much
Fecal Description - Brown color with a little white/ orange
History -
Cage Info:Live plants, paper towel substrate
Cage Type -screen 18x18x36
Lighting - 100w zoomed heating 5.0 uv tube exo terra light 8am-8pm
Temperature - 83F-74F day 73F night using a temperature prob
Humidity - 80-60 maintain with mist king live plants
Plants - Pothos Bamboo Ficus
Placement - Off the floor my room second story near quite street
Location - Bay Area California

Current Problem -Four days ago she ate some of the gel gut load because one piece accidentally fell into her bowl. She seemed to move it around in her mouth a bit the she was fine. The next day I saw her eating perfectly fine, but for the last two days she has not eaten. Today she is sleeping and not moving unless she has to. I'm not sure what the problem is and what to do about it. I would appreciate any feedback. Thank You
 
Has she been eating every day? At that age, she may not need to. How long is she sleeping and what time of day?
 
Sounds like you're doing everything correct. Not sure how long you've had your cham for. You left the history blank :)

Do you have anything for your cham to lay her eggs in? Bucket with soil? plants w/ atleast 8" deep of soil?

How hot is her basking spot? Does she close her eyes while only basking?

Her fecal sounds good, but usually orange is a sign of dehydration. As long as her urate (white part) is mostly white, you'll be fine. Sometimes chams take a few minutes to start drinking water from a mister. Usually this happens when it's a 3 minute mist. It allows them to get used to it first, then they'll eventually drink. Do you have a dripper hooked up? I use a mistking/dripper for my cham. He doesn't drink from the mister but he does from the dripper.

Also i see you're from the Bay, I'm from the bay aswell.

Usually sleeping during the day is a sign of illness...Hopefully another member can figure out whats wrong. But its your best choice to take her to a herp vet to get her checked out. Also a fecal test wouldn't hurt. She may/may not have parasites. She may also be eggbound, in this case you would need to see a vet asap! I can recommend a few places if you're local to Oakland/Berkeley area.

Up until now she has been eating every other day and on occasion everyday. This morning starting at 11 to now she is and has been sleeping.
 
I will try to take her to the vet as soon as I can, but say this is the problem can the vet help? Another bit of information is that the bowl was a little wet and when she started to eat the cube had already swelled to a large size.
 
:D Hello, Can you possibly post some pictures of her. I'm thinking she could have MBD and not sure of other problems from swallowing the water crystal. I would make an appointment with a vet that has experience with chameleons. I see several issues you may need to work on. I'll post some links for you to read when you can but getting her to the vet is most important. You should be using a calcium supplement without D3 daily, With D3 2x month and Multi vit 2x month. Gut load your feeders with veggie and fruit also a dry gutload. This will be explained in the links.

I go to Berkeley Cats & Dogs in Berkeley. It'll cost you $90 for an exam, but you'll be a client. Fecal tests are $28 bucks each. Believe it or not this was the cheapest place I found. Also the herp vet, Ken is highly recommended. He may be in right now, I'd suggest calling over there and see what he could do for you. You can also do payments at the vets office if you don't have the money.

If your Cham is egg bound, a vet can help by giving her a shot of oxytocin to see if she will go into contractions/labor. If it works she should just start dropping them throughout her enclosure. She will also need a shot of calcium. Try to get to a vet asap.
 
Nice straight bones... Definitely not MBD. Beautiful girl you got there. She looks a little chubby (potentially carrying eggs)
 
The only reasons why she is like that is because of eggs or an expanded water crystal. How would you tell if it was eggs

Eggs would not make her sleep in the day unless she was bound. Do you have a laying bin for her? Either way she would need a vet.
 
Update: I took Kiwi to the vet. She gave Kiwi fluids under the skin and dewormers just in case. She also said that my chameleon was bloated either from the water cube or she was egg bound, she said to wait a Day to see if she would eat. I have another question what do I need to do for a laying bin?
 
If the vet does an xray you should be able to see eggs if she is carrying them.
If she is with eggs and you haven't provided her with a place to dig to lay them she could very well be eggbound. If so it needs to be dealt with quickly before she becomes too weak.
 
I'd still be worried about the water crystal. An X Ray would of helped to tell if there were any eggs. I guess you'll have to play the waiting game now.

Til then, be sure to set up a laying bin for your cham. If she starts to dig once you've done so, then you shouldn't have any worries.
