First of all. relax.. it is not really happened.
But, i do planning on putting a small amount of baking soda (a teaspoon) inside of the tub that catch dripping water (the tub is inside of the cage).
basically to kill bacteria and stuff.

If the cham just happen to swallow some of baking soda.. would it be harmful?
(I am guessing if it pretty safe for human to eat.. i guess it safe for him too? yes? no? opinion?)

I can’t comment directly as to the effects of baking soda on a chameleon however. Something you may want to keep in mind are, Backing soda will dehydrate your chameleon. Any animal that relies on a great deal of humidity and is susceptible to URI because of a dry environment may not benefit at all from something that could potentially make them dehydrate further. Also too much of anything can be toxic to humans and reptiles alike. A chameleon is relatively small and what appears to be a small dose to you, may be a deadly dose to him.

There are other methods of controlling bacteria that are obviously more time consuming but potentially safer…

Baking Soda mixed with Salt and Water is used to treat shock in humans. But indeed it does elimnate moister (humidity) and your pet needs this. I would suggest ZooMed Wipe Out 2 to clean the dish every other day but no less then once a week. I clean my 1/4" trays out that capture water from sprayer every day with Wipe Out 2. Currenlty have some type of new Quick Wipes on order that contain 0 chemicals and used some sort of lime to eliminate bacteria being 100% sefe to reptiles. Apperently new and I plan to use it to wipe leafs off that Victoria has pooped on while using Wipe Out 2 to clean furniture and water traps.
