Chameleon will only eat flies

Could you fill out the "How to ask for help" form? I saw in another post that you mentioned that she was lethargic and that was the reason for taking her to the vet. Letting someone double check your husbandry is helpful, sometimes someone else can see something you missed and it gives those on the forum a bigger picture of what might help.

You can copy and paste it from here and fill it out....
  • Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care?
  • Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon?
  • Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders?
  • Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule?
  • Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking?
  • Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites?
  • History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you.

Cage Info:
  • Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions?
  • Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule?
  • Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps?
  • Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity?
  • Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind?
  • Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor?
  • Location - Where are you geographically located?

Current Problem - The current problem you are concerned about.

Was the cham had saliva mucus n open her mouth all the time with her head pointing up?if not then I will recommend find anothet vet asap,ur poor cham is not eating for a reason, and when giving prescription med without a proper cause, that will only make it worse n delay the healing process, without proper food in her age,she wont grow properly, medicine will also cause the cham not eating at all.
The vet actually said virus not infection, but still was not specific. Kinda of irritates me because that was a $100 vet visit with no answers. I've tried to follow care sheets to the T so I just don't get it, very frustrating. Like I said she will go nuts over flies or moths when I throw them in, but pays no attention to roaches, crickets, wax worms . etc. she will get real close like she's gonna get them but then just turns around. I've tried misting her cage more frequently to hydrate her, doesn't seem to be doing much. I'm gonna try the shower tomorrow.

her urate and poo seem normal, white. In my opinion the vet was not very knowledgable.
If the urates is white, that means she is drinking somehow,u can try showering her,but it still wont solve the feeding problems, why not go get a second opinion from a different vet.

Have you tried a smaller size of crickets?
Or maybe throw flies in together with some smaller crickets to trick her into eating a cricket.

My cham also doesn't really care for his cup yet either but eats anything that runs lose, I think they will have to eventually figure that out themselves.

Mine eats crickets and has eaten super worms and BFL in the past, but I was away for two days and left a bunch of super worms in his cup, which was tipped over and the worms were crawling on the bottom, I don't think he ate many or any. So at 5PM, I put in 7 pr 8 crickets and he ate them all in under 30 minutes. His seems to not like this batch of super worms. I hope this is not the start of a boycott.

I think the precautionary meds may have hurt more than helped, its good her fecal came back negative that rules out some potential issues. My priority would be to try and keep her stress levels down at this point, if you have a knowledgeable vet you can go to I would take her but unless you know where you are going has extensive chameleon experience ( search this forum for suggested vets) the stress is not worth another trip to a regular dog cat vet. The shower is a good idea, can't hurt and her eyes do appear a little sunk in however that also can just be because of stress. I would do it a couple times a day for week or so then once a week going forward, mine all really seem to enjoy the longer showers. Do you free range any of the regular feeders? To keep her weight up I would keep giving her flies every few days, preferably dusted since she's not getting anything else. Meanwhile between offering the flies have a few different feeders available in cups and some crickets roaming around, when she decides what option she wants to feed on offer more of that, certain individuals can be finicky! One of mine refuses to eat the same feeder more than once a week or so, 2 of mine stopped eating crickets for months wanted nothing but worms and roaches, then weather got colder and they wanted crickets again. To get some more of the knowledgeable members input filling out the form that was mentioned above can help to pinpoint any other potential causes that may have been unnoticed. More pics of both the chameleon and enclosure as well. Good luck with her
