I have just gotten a panther ive had him two weeks now i supplement him hes misted has temperature fine nice screenarium vines etc but for some reason i know its supposed to be when theyre upset they darken but i cant tell if hes just darkening to blend or what his base color when sleeping or outve the cage is my avatar if anyone has any advice let me know ??

They darken to absorb heat.

They change colors for various reasons. Yes, they will darken to absorb the heat. My chameleon was almost attacked by a hawk the other day and turned dark. They will brigten up when they are happy too. And their sleeping colors are usually the best of all!!! They will also change colors when they are mad, but usually that is when they "fire up" and display more color also.

Dont take offense but its prob you thats making him turn dark. Since you just got him he's prob not acclimated to you and your schedule with him yet. Once he gets used to you misting and being the giant that brings him food he will get to where he accepts your intrusion into his area.

none taken but he brightens up when i interact with him and he has a huge free roam spot directly next to his cage so he chooses to go onto that and me as well thats why i chose panthers there the most interactive alot of veileds in mellers are either terrified of you or hate you haha i care for veileds daily they just dont change colors as dramatically as the panthers and where i work im a reptile specialist and ive kept thing like tegus to crested geckos all my life so id like to say im efficiently knowledgeable but it worried me as to why he did that but that would make perfect since thank you for the advice
