Chameleons Eyes Closed??

I recently got a chameleon, it has been maybe four days, and I have noticed he won’t open his right eye…. I have observed that it still moves, and at one point, while I was spraying his cage, he opened his eye and shut it quickly as if it was hurting him. Is this an issue with vitamins, temperature, or what? While on the topic of vitamins, I also would appreciate recommendations on what vitamins to give him. Any help would be welcome since I am a first-time caretaker of a chameleon.

In the photo that his eye is closed and the other open.

If they’re new it could be from stress and/or improper care they had before you. Can you please post a picture of their enclosure as well?

This video will be helpful:

Now that I’m looking at it more closely it looks like there might be something in the eye

Hi and welcome to the forum. :) I’m thinking your handsome little guy’s eye problem is most likely related to your husbandry. From your enclosure, I’ve got some concerns that he isn’t getting all that he needs. Every aspect of care is very important and they all work together to keep your chameleon healthy and happy. I’d be more than happy to help you get everything perfect, as would other members. If you could answer the following questions in as much detail as possible and include a pic of your lights, another member or I can go thru it and identify any problem areas. Just copy & paste with your answers.
Chameleon Info:
  • Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care?
  • Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon?

  • Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule?

  • Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites?
  • History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you.

  • Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions?
  • Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule?
  • Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps?
