Chameleons: Mythbusted!

Air heads ...

"It was commonly believed in the past that the chameleon lived on air, and didn't consume any food at all. This belief is today represented in symbolic form, with the chameleon often being used as a motif to signify air."

Imagine the money and work that would save!

In some parts of Africa they are considered a bad omen and if you see one you should throw it in a fire so no ill will come your way. Sad huh?

Myth?...

Chameleons are actually aliens that somehow landed on our planet and only live in a general region of the earth because they haven't quite figured out how to take over yet. Notice how they are becoming more and more popular, maybe its there way of spreading out??

Oh, they are just too slow, they will inherit the earth one day, in time :D they just have to get there :)

A more real one is the northern-african custom of selling live chameleons meant to be dried out in the sun, so they can bring you good luck

seen somewhere on the internet: "looking for those horned ones (triceros?) with yellow or red horns"

this one resulted in some beverage ending up on the keyboard (the person could have said triceratops, wouldn't have changed much )

Chameleons die or spontaneously combust or something when you put them on a plaid striped shirt.

Or do this...

Don't get me started...

When I went to get my first jacksons in 94 the pet store owner tole me I didn't want to own one because "they freak out so much they won't eat and starve to death."

So "they're only look at animals that you can't stare at because it's going to kill them... "

"You can't handle a chameleon because it will kill them due to stress".

"Panthers and veilds will not drink out of standing water... a waterfall is best.. you need to have a waterfall and a bubble mister"

"misting twice a day is how you get a chameleon enough water".

You can't house more than one animal in the same cage because they'll die.

"You know, they don't make great pets because they die after 3 months"

"ZooMed 10.0 UV tubes are the best available on the market for your chameleons... they're even better with a reflector hood because they reach all the way down to the bottom of the cage." (yes, I was actually told that by a wholesaler)

"they burry their eggs in potting soil"

"Panther chameleons are too expensive and should be cheaper (like $50 bucks each)"

"I'm going to start breeding panther chameleons and make lots of money"

"they all die for no reason".

and those are the ones right off the top of my head.

not to be off topic or anything but i thought, when i read the title, that they did something with chameleons on the tv show mythbusters. i was excited to watch tv for once.
