Champ's diet

Hello Everyone,

I have a 8 month old veiled named Champ and I'm curious about his diet. Currently he's eating super worms, dubia roaches, crickets, and I've just started hatching silk worms. I gut load with sweet potato, greens, apples, oranges and whatever else I can come up with. The main plant in the enclosure is a nepenthes pitcher plant which he doesn't eat. There is also a pothos he dines on regular. Champ also has a hibiscus tree for a free range and he enjoys bits and pieces of that.

My question is is this enough variety? Does he need more plants in his diet?

Thanks
Ben

Have you tried offering him fresh kale or other leafy greens? I would offer him a variety of small fruits, veggies, and greens to find out what he likes. Make him a salad!

The hibiscus is safe, but I would try to discourage/prevent him from eating the pothos. They are mildly toxic.

Thanks for the advice. Would you put the salad in a feeding cup? I've tried hand feeding fruits and vegetables but no go. He takes the bugs out of my hand but does not want anything else.

I would try anything and everything until you find something successful :)

You might do some searching here to see what people have suggested. I know several keepers here have veileds that love kale.

Sorry to hijack a bit - but I was wondering how small people thought to cut up the fruit and veg? should i cut up the leafy greens too? I'm worried that without being attached to like a stem - talking about the hibiscus he LOVES - that he might eat too big and piece and get impacted if its not cut? so far i keep making like salsa size bits for him and i don't know if that is too small or what! He is not really going for the non flowers so thought id ask! I also put it in a dish for him to grab but not too much action there ;(

You can use an aquarium veggie clip. It's made for holding stuff like kale, greens, cucumbers, etc for pacu, plecostamus, and NaCl H2O fish.
