Chams eye keeps rolling back

A few days a go i went over to see my cham and i noticed a very little thing on his eyelid.Its had orange color to it and it looked kinda like a little bug, it was so small i couldnt really tell.I tried removing it with a little quick rub with my finger, didnt work.I grabbed him and had too literally pull it off his eyelid!, it felt like it was clinging on to his eye lid!.

Since then i have noticed that he's been rolling that eyeball back sometimes, like when a person rolls their eye back and you can see the white part of the eye, hes doing the same thing.He doesnt keep it like that, just once in a while, His eye looks fine and healthy.Just this has been bugging me.


I know i should've taken a pic of the thing on his eye!, but didnt think much of it, so i didnt.

never really thought much of it, i thought it was just a bug......it looked a lot like one.

Well it's too late now for pictures of course, is there any way you could describe the orange "bug"? I don't think it would be something related to mites.. but you never know.

it looked similar to a ant with orange and black, just a bit diff on the body structure though.

What kind of cham is it? Is it wild caught or captive bred? How long have you had it?

There are a variety of parasites that it could have been. I am going to assume you know for sure that it was a bug and not a growth or scab or something else entirely.

Some biting parasites will break off pieces under the skin if you try to just pull them off. Can you see anything unusual about the eye? Compare it carefully to the other one.

Because a chams eyes are so critical for their ability to eat I would say that if he does not stop this behavior within a day or two, or if you see ANY other signs that something might be wrong with the eye, you should get him to a vet.

Also, carefully check the rest of the chams body for more. Especially at the corners of the mouth, around the eyes, in the armpits, and behind any head crests/ornaments if he has any. I would also look over any other reptiles in your home.

cham is captive bred, ive had it for about 2 n half months

it looked a lot like a bug, but it was so small i couldnt tell, It didnt move either.

i already explained what the eye is doing,and no their isnt any other bugs on him.

He's showing a new problem which i think is connected to the thing i removed from his eye.

his eye seems to be half shut, instead of being wide open.

Ok so i went to Village animal hospital in diamond bar,ca

I clearly asked for a vet with chameleon experience.


The vet didnt seem to to know what was the problem, because the cham wasnt showing the symptoms at the time.So she gave me "Tobramycin Ophthalmic Solution USP"

the directions say to give orally every 12 hrs.????? orally?, this is a eye problem why is it orally?.I should've asked her at the moment, but didnt really realize until i was on the freeway.

Also,he is about to shed......thats why his skin looks dehydrated

My panther Chameleon developed a 'skin' over the eye and when the vet removed the growth the eye lokked similar. The vet gave me drops for the eyes and a saline solution to wash the eyes with.

However, the problem persisted until I installed a misting system and he started drinking. The problem seemed to had been mostly related to hydration.

Skin over the eye?, thats what mine had.Weird cause i have a misting system.Might not be misting him long enough, cause i mist him about 6 times a day for about 3 minutes, i guess ill go with 5 minutes a mist then just to make sure he is hydrated.

That is an eye drop-do NOT give that orally.

OMG!, I GAVE HIM 1 TODAY!!!!!!


makes no sense!!!! it says in the vet's description "give orally every 12 hrs."!!!


What can i do????
