Change in behavior/bowel movements

I'll definitely look into supplements, thank you for the suggestions! I actually do have a reptile multivitamin (I think it's Nat Geo brand, but not sure) that I usually give to my skinks, I just haven't given it to Ramses before.

I checked through his plants a few times within the last couple days and couldn't find any droppings, unfortunately! I'm keeping an eye on them in case he does happen to poop in them, though. Since my female unfortunately passed away last week, I have a lot of extra vines and some plants that were in her cage, so I'll be adding some of those to his sometime this week to give him more climbing space.

I'll also be sure to give my crickets some greens starting tomorrow! I'll have to order silkworms (and hornworms) too, since they both sound like they'll be good for him. I've been sure to water him a lot and make sure he stays well hydrated for now. I'll be attempting to shower him again tomorrow with a slightly different set up to try and avoid stressing him out too much about it.

Thanks again for everyone's help! If anyone has any recommendations for showering him without stressing him out too much those would be great too! He doesn't even seem to like feeling the mist from the shower and spends his time trying to get out, unfortunately.

Was the shower nice and warm?

Before you add anything that your female used, I would be curious to know why she passed....depending on that I would make sure it was soaked in beach water and rinsed really well or chuck them.

Yes, I made sure that the mist felt fairly warm when I put my hand in it. He doesn't even like when he gets touched by warm mist when I mist his cage down, so I'm thinking maybe he just doesn't like the contact?

My female was egg bound. She'd had a laying bin and even dug in it for a bit, and she acted normally up until her last few days, so I unfortunately didn't realize the problem until it was too late. When I took her in she was incredibly weak, and the vet recommended euthanasia for her, which I went with. The eggs were the only problem that the vet identified, but they said it looked like she was starting to get stomatitis from it. Is this contagious? I will try to wash the vines before I switch them over to be safe.

As long they dont share tooth brush...just kidding, and yes mouth rot can spread by germ ,bacteria and viruses
Thats why its very important to use the proper nutrition and husbandry cannot be overstated.Chameleon in fact is a most exotic species, they do not show signs of illness until the disease or infection is quite advanced,

I understand that. I really did everything I could from what I knew based on the research I did. I know I didn't do everything perfectly for her (like with the D3) but, again, these are the first chameleons I have ever owned, and I have never had first-hand experience with an egg laying female. The moment she started showing signs of being egg bound I took her in, but she was too weak. Trust me, I would have saved her if I could, but they told me she likely wouldn't survive surgery. I do the best that I can.

Yes, thank you for your kind words. Sorry if my replies are slow, I'm idling a bit on this site.

Anyways, Ramses has gone to bed at this point, so I won't be doing anything else with him tonight, but I'll post updates tomorrow and any more questions that come up!

No worries, its peek hours right now for the internet travel, sweet dream for u n the handsome Ramses....tomorrow is always a better day.

Today's update on Ramses: Still no bowel movement, unfortunately! Started feeding crickets with calcium and no D3 today.

I tried to shower him twice more today for about 5 minute intervals. He really doesn't seem to like the shower. He changes color (green to yellow on the underside) and spends his time trying to climb up/move away from the shower. I have the spray directed at the wall so he just gets misted lightly with warm water. Not sure if he's just not a fan of the shower or if I'm doing something wrong? He doesn't really seem to benefit from shower time because I constantly have to hold him or stop him from falling while he tries to move around. I placed a grid-top object for him in the shower to hold on to but he doesn't seem to want to be there at all.

Does anyone have any advice for showering? What would be the best way to do it? Or is he just not a chameleon that cares for it?

What are you putting him on? Do you have a nice big sturdy plant for him to hang out in?

If u are worry about his pooping problem,I will highly recommend start Gutload vegetable in his feeder right away, along with the silkworm,if he still doesn't poop out then U should take him to the chameleon specialist vet asap n check for internal blockage in his digestive system, what goes in his stomach will always comes out unless there is a blockage or he is not even eating at all.

I don't have any large plants to put in there unfortunately, the biggest ones in his page are pothos and I'm not sure those would work for him to hang out. Would placing his pothos on the other object in there help?

And I'm planning on starting the crickets on greens soon, I haven't had a chance to pick any up from the store yet, but I will! I have a vet I can take him to if he needs to go, but so far he is acting fairly normally besides not having pooped recently. I plan to call the vet tomorrow and ask some questions if I still don't see any results.

That will be a great decision for a cham did not poop for 6days or even longer, since he usually poop during 2-4days ,hope he will poop very soon n make u less worry.

Yes. It would Make him feel more secure having the leaves and the vines to hang on to. That's probably why he was freaking out.

Alright, I'll try showering him again tomorrow and see if the plants help. I'll update on how it goes, and I should be able to grab the cricket food tomorrow too.

Thanks!

So changing to calcium without D3 is good, but did you notice that the miner-all supplement has D3 in it? I use it for my male panther too, but like maybe once a month, otherwise, zero D3. I'm confident in my lighting (proper UVB will naturally create D3 within the chameleons body) and my chameleon is outside all day during warmer months. He looks healthy in the pictures, but you notice the little things...and that's excellent. If you're doubting the supplements, a good vet can run a blood chemistry and tell you all you need to know. Also, I try to avoid almost everything the major "pet stores" sell. National Geographic should stick to film, not reptile supplies.

I personally use the Rapashy Calcium Plus, and it is the only thing I use. The low D version would be fine in my opinion, if that's what you have. I would however use just the plain Calcium for the 3-4 weeks. Let him detox a bit from the heavy D3.
I also use the Repashy Calcium Plus, at the recommendation of my vet, and one of his colleagues. It's a well rounded vitamin supplement, and calcium. About once a week (to ten days) I use a Calcium with D3, that I got from walmart. As far as shipping bugs, any reputable shipper should put them into a Styrofoam shipper with a warm pack, of some kind. Ask them how they ship, and if they guarantee live arrival. If they don't, look elsewhere.
