Cheap Drainage Solution

Make a three sided 2x4 frame the same dimensions as your cage, with the front side open, (like a squared U shape). Slide your "U" under the cage as a base. Drill holes in your plastic bottom and slide an aluminum disposable pan under the cage and inside your wood frame. $10 total cost to set up 3 cages. Make sure you set the 2x4's up so they give you more clearance for your pan. This also gives your cages more height which chameleons always appreciate.

The bucket idea is ok but not as stable as the table I have my cages on. I'd hate to bump a cage off of a bucket. Also, I don't have to move my cages to empty water out of a bucket, just slide the pans out and dump.

indoor cage drainage

My indoor cham cages were all designed by me and then custom built
about 10 years ago. They are 3' tall, 18" deep, and 2' wide. They are all screen including the bottom. The back and sides extend maybe 8" farther down than the front, which is all door (again aluminum screen). I sit a 28 qt. Rubbermaid
plastic storage container under the cage with the sides and back straddling it. Two pieces of wood 1x2's are inside from side to side with a live potted plant (scheflerausually) sitting on them. Water drips from top of cage, over plant, and into container. Just slide the container out from the front to dump the water out. Absolutely no mess!
