Today one of our Chinese mantis ooths hatched. Yesterday we had a ghost mantis ooth hatch, but I don't have pictures yet. I figured I would give these Chinese ones a chance before the ghost ones look so cool that these are forgotten.

Awesome! This is my next feeder breeding project.... Although it makes me nervous that if I forget to feed them they will start eating eachother... Thats a lot of pressure!

My boys love these things. I am not patient enough to breed them though. I know it is a long life cycle. They take several weeks just to get big enough to feed off. I read that ghost mantids can live for 9 months or longer. I am content to just buy ooths from others who are able to breed them. You can ask Ssimsswiss about life cycle times as he breeds all sorts of mantids.

they eat each other no matter how much you feed them  - I only have about 40 left from about 300 org/ - and I just had ANOTHER one hatch 2 days ago

I know! I was feeding my last batch of mantids like crazy and they still ate eachother. Those were egyptian though. I saw one eat a good sized cricket, then turn around and eat a mantis that was about the same size as he was.

That will happen I had plenty of crickets running around the whole time and they would still snag a brother or sister right next to em. :/ I guess its just mantis law to eat whats closest :p

I am going to try my best to feed these guys like crazy for the next few weeks. I need lots of big ones for my hungry boys.

Hey, uh, is breeding mantids hard? And u guys actually feed them to chams? Wow! Can you guys tell me more about this? :)
