Chloë, her new sand, other concerns

Yeah, I offer veggies and fruits all the time. She usually loves them but right now, nothing. She won't eat any.

Thanks jannb but there is slim to no chance I'm making it to the Keys. I'm looking for something closer but I have no idea who actually has any experience around here in Palm Beach County. The few places I looked up say "reptile vet" along with pretty much everything else you could have as a pet.

This is so frustrating. She appears to be very energetic even though she hasn't eaten. Before she ate a lot and was a lazy girl.

How long do they stay gravid by the way?

I'm an hour north of West Palm Beach. There's no good chameleon vets around you. There's a couple that would be ok for fecals but that's about it. If your girl is egg bound Dr. Mader is excellent with surgery. He saved my Lottie girl.

If mated they normally lay around 30 days after they mate. If you get an x-ray, if the eggs are round then she has a ways to go. If the eggs are oval then it's laying time. If she doesn't have eggs then she might just be ill or have parasites or both.

Small update:

She's still about the same. She didn't eat yesterday but she had 5 crickets (at least) the day before. She's still pacing like crazy. I'm getting her outside but the last couple days have been rainy around here. I should be taking to her a vet tomorrow if all goes as planned. They can do ex-rays and a fecal.

She stopped eating sand as well. So that's a good thing. I pretty much let her have at it and after a couple of bites I guess she decided against it for whatever reason. I'm putting in a huge laying bin today just in case she decides to use it. I'm not entirely sure she has eggs at all honestly. I just don't see it.

Will update further as things progress. Time to wake her.

Update: Chloe went to the vet today. The Doc had an X-ray done and she does have eggs but he says she has another 3-4 weeks to lay. I wasn't able to get a fecal because she hasn't gone for a couple days so I have to go back and do that. He says she doesn't look like that would be the case. That she looks very healthy but he'd do one anyways.

So all her pacing around I think is just her trying to get out. That's what it's always looked like to me but I wasn't sure. Maybe it's because she wants to do the wild thing, IDK. :D I was told the reason for her not eating as much is because the eggs taking up room in her belly and that as long as she's eating here and there that she should be fine. I'm hopping she'll start to eat more Phoenix Worms for the cal.

I'll update the thread when I get the X-ray picture emailed to me.

3-4 more weeks

If eggs are oval then the chameleon IMHO should lay sooner than four weeks. I'm not a vet...just speaking from experience.

Do they look oval to you?

She just started showing blues and her yellows are really showing now. Her tummy isn't all that big yet.

That would be something, laying a little over a week after gravid. Does that happen?

I have her laying bin set up either way. It's basically the entire bottom of the enclosure almost (22 x 16) ten inches deep with a play sand/organic soil mixture because she was eating the plain play sand.

Glad you have some relief from your worries! Thanks for sharing x-Ray. My daughter is going to love studying it! Can I just say I'm really happy my first Cham is a boy. The stress of a girl. Yikes.

Believe me the thought has crossed my mind many times. Honestly I would have chose a boy if it where up to me for my first Chameleon. That said, I do love her. She was a gift, I had no idea I was getting her and no idea how to take care of a Chameleon at all. I'm so glad this forum exist.
