Claudia Is Full of Eggs

Do you weigh her regularly? If so she will weigh much less. My girls have always covered the hole so just a wild guess....she was maybe digging a test hole and has not laid yet. My girl always look bad afterwards. Thin and worn out.

I was weighing her weekly but haven't for awhile. She's not very nice now that she's an adult and gets super stressed and hisses/lunges when I try to get her out to weigh her. She looks normal, gave her a nice long misting just in case and she drank happily. I was surprised to even see the hole there. I went to readjust the sheet I keep over the cage when she's close to laying and never expected to see that hole. Glad I did, though.

The funny thing is though, even after she laid eggs last time, which was a full 24 hour ordeal, she looked perfectly fine. I expected to have one tired/roughed up cham on my hands, but she was perfect. She's a tough cookie, this one!

I was able to get a vet appointment this afternoon to have Claudia looked at. Her eating has stopped almost entirely and I was really getting worried. They looked her over, checked her weight (96g), listened to her breathing, looked for mouth rot, did a fecal check and determined that there was nothing at all wrong with her there. In fact, they even complimented me on my husbandry and how nice her skin was. That's when we went for the x-ray, and my suspicions were confirmed. The poor girl is full of eggs.

I was given some extra pointers and tips on getting her to use her laying bin, so I'm going to get it all set up for her in the morning (she's asleep now) and put her in a separate, secluded cage and let her do her thing, hopefully. The vet said if anything goes wrong or she's not laying, just give them a call and we'll go from there.

Keep your fingers crossed for Claudia, please? This will be her first clutch (infertile), and I just want it to go smoothly for her.
Best of luck! Sounds like you've been doing all the right things so far. Keep us posted!

Looks like you were correct Jann! That's why I love this place! She's back in the sand digging away today, has been there a few hours doing her thing so I'm just leaving her be to get it done.

I forgot to come back here with the result of the digging. She successfully laid 28 perfect little non-fertile eggs and is doing great. A much easier ordeal than the first go around with 49 eggs and two trips to the vet. We are starting to get the hang of this! :D

That's excellent news! Thank you for updating us. I think it's about time for a photo update too.
