Cleaning cage help

Hey everyone it's about that time for me to clean TRexs cage. I also am receiving his MistKing today's as week. I would like to clean his cage and set the misting system up today as well. I am a little concerned with trying to remove him from his cage. He is a little bit afraid of me. Usually when my hand gets to close to him in the cage he start to back up or run away. I don't know how to approach him and try and get him out of the cage safely and with the smallest amount of stress as possible. I plan to put him on an umbrella tree I have and put it outside while I do everything. If anyone has any advice to give me to make the situation a little bit easier for the both of us that would be great. I have not handled him yet, and I got him last Friday so it will be the first for both of us. Thanks everyone

Best advice when just moving him around for practical purposes, especially if he is nervous, would be to be as quick as possible (gentle too, of course). It is often possible to tempt them with hand feeding (waxworms/mealworms are probably easiest because you can use your palm).
If he won't be tempted there is nothing else to do but try to gently 'push' him onto your hand or arm. If this fails then just grab him, you'll get used to it ;)

Maybe try coaxing him onto a long stick very gently and moving him that way, he could just be afraid of your hands coming at him. A stick may be more appealing to him.

It's going to be rather interesting I would like to get him used to being handled once An awhile so I dont have any problem. I would like to be able to take him outside so he can get some real sin. I figured a week a week was a good amount of time for him to get use to his home and stable up more after his long trip here. Thanks guys I will be giving it a shot this afternoon I will let you now how it works out for us

You can also try putting the plant in front of his cage with the door open and easy access for him to crawl onto it himself. Good luck and congratulations on your new chameleon :)

Oh and be very careful putting the plant outside if you don't have a cage or some type of netting. Birds can get at them and they can also escape very quickly

Hello,
is the misting system you ordered actually MISTING or RAINING?
Mistingsytems are inproper for chameleons, as it is nebulizing the water drops so much that your chameleon can breath them in and they may get into his lung witch will make him drown fewer or later.
If it is a misting system, please don´t use it and order a raining system.

I hate to disagree but a lot of us, me included have used misting, not raining systems for years very successfully. My chams also have a dripper for drinking but they are misted 6 times a day.

Your English is fine. At least you have a second language, lots of us in the US, like me, only speak English.:(

Hello,
thanks :)
In germany it is well known that Mistingsystems are bad for chameleons and every vet around there will tell you. I don´t know exactly if we are talking about the same thing, so i´ll just give you two pictures:
this is the one you should not use:

there are rainingsystems that also give something rather looking like mist, but they are okay, the drops are to big to get into the lungs:

Ok you and I are talking about the same thing. We do both use what we refer to as misting systems. The other thing yo show is called a repti fogger, i personally think they are a piece of crap, and gave away the ones I had bought for my chams. i knew we were on the same tract.:)

Glad to hear :) That´s how it is when you´re not speaking english as primary language and are not already used to the terms used ;)

Well I was able to complete the MistKing setup and everything went rather good. He did not want to come out at first but he did. He never tried to bite me and he did not ever change to a dark brown. Even after we had a little accident happen with his outside plant. It was a lil breezy outside and his tree happened to tip over but I was able to catch it right away. He never even moved from the tree I felt sloop bad for him. It was rather upsetting, but everything is ok. After I set his cage back up he was eating and drinking as soon as I put him back in. So I hope he doesn't take that experience outside of the cage has horrific and never come out again. But I lighters the misting system and he does too. I find him sometime going into the mist when it goes off. Is that ok if he odes that? I know that other person posting said misting systems are bad for chams? Doesn't sound correct because almost everyone on this forum has one. Thanks everyone

Hello,
no, it´s perfectly fine for him to go and take a shower. That´s kind of like with dogs, some like water and some do not. The only problem i ever heard of is that he might get sprayed into his eye from a low distance which may hurt him, but i think some people overdo their need for safety sometimes. Guess ist should be okay.

Hey, I clean my cages with the chams inside. I use 10 parts water and one part peroxide. The peroxide evaporates almost immediately. If there is no sitting water and the cage has time to dry between mistings, you shouldnt need to clean much more than poop and plant matter within the span of a month. You may need to clean more of you are using a glass enclosure.

Hello,
we in germany use soil from the local forests, don´t know wheter this is possible in the US as well as we have no parasites or something around here, but forest soil is a great help, we do never do anything else than collecting the poo for a year or two if there are no problems.
