Well we have decided it is time to mate Elwood and Leeloo, our Nosy Be Panthers. This will be the first time mating for both Chams. She is almost 2 years old and he is around 14 months, so they are both at mature and ready to breed.
The problem is that Elwood is failing to get the job done.
Attempt #1: I had him on a group of plants out in the natural sun, and I introduced her. Her behavior was receptive, and he showed a lot of headbobbing and proceeded to chase her. Well what looked like it was going to be successfull turned into a missed shot. They assumed the position... But it looked like he didn't know where to put it. They were on the edge of a planter, and as he asserted his effort he ended up falling off, and grabbing onto her tail to pull himself back up before he could hit the ground. They would sit as if in copulation, but they werent. Eventually she moved away....He lost interest.
Attempt #2: The next day, I introduced her to his cage... She was still receptive, He bobbed his head briefly but never pusued, I left them for the day, and returned to find them relaxing in seperate areas of the cage, and no change in her behvior. I think they just "talked" all day.
Attempt #3: The next day I decided to try introducing him to her cage... He did not like it, Changed to stress colors and waited by the exit for the cage trying to escape.
What should I do? When my other males mated for their first times they seemed to know exactly what to do. I seem to have a sexually challenged male.
I am affraid all this interaction is causing her to cycle eggs without fertilization.
Any Advice? Thanks
