Has anybody had a chameleon shipped in the cold? I am thinking of buying a jackson's from an online dealer and he said he wont gaurantee the animal. I will definitely not let him ship it until after the holidays, but it is about 35 dgrees here and I am not sure if a couple heat packs will suffice. I know they can tolerate pretty low temps for short periods, but not sure how they would tolerate shipping right now. Any ifo would be great.

Not a cham but I just had a tokay gecko shipped monday, It went from indiana to IL to KY to me in florida. He arrived fine but I would wait til jan 1st if I were you.

i just had my cham shipped to ny but i got lucky the day before it shipped it was like 30 degrees the next 2 days were low 40's. I think it should be ok with some heat packs and its always shipped overnight so it should be fine. But def wait till after the holiday shipping slows down so nothing happens to it.

Normally they will use heat packs in colder temps. Thats a little too cold though probably I would imagine.

definitely no shipping till after the new year, Ill have to talk to him to make sure he knows what he is doing for the shipping, would still like to hear some eperiences though

Cold Weather Shipping.......

Personally, I would not purchase or receive any chameleon not guaranteed by the seller. If he won't guarantee because of the weather, then I would wait until the weather is good enough to guarantee.

I also agree 100%. If the seller does not guarantee the health of the animal regardless of the weather, my opinion is to avoid such purchase.

Ecoregional used 2 small heat packs in the box of chams we received Wednesday. But our temps here are in mid 30s during the night, and mid 40s during the day. But I still requested (and they recommended) heat packs, coming from southern Calif to here, overnight. They came in just fine. The box contained 7 chams and they were wrapped in damp paper towels and just nice and cool when they arrived. The heat packs were well bound up in folded newspaper, so the box was neither too hot nor too cold. They were shipped Tuesday night, pretty late, and arrived at 9:30 AM Wednesday.

Michigan is probably a whole nother story.

I think we're done collecting for now. With one exception. Although it may be controversial, we will probably purchase a panther morph cross to breed with the beautiful one we have from the Kammer's Bilbo line. We will keep very careful records, and, should we ever get hatchlings from them, and sell them, we will be certain to describe the offspring accurately.

We have a new cham room that's just about finished. It is 18' x 12' out in a shop building on our property. It will have an automatic mister, auto drain system, auto light timer, auto thermostat. That will save us a lot of time. Most of our time now ius taken up with the daily mistings and mopping up cage bottoms.

I've been taking preliminary photos of the room development, and will probably post them when the project is complete (if one could say a chameleon project is ever complete!).
