I have a veiled chameleon for 2 months now. Unfortunately I don't know the age. Gender is still a big questionmark. She/he has a bump kind of things on the back legs but not as noticable as "tipical"male's. So I don't know for sure.
So my question would be that around what age do they change colour? Couple days ago stripes started to appear slightly and dots. It could help to guess her/his age.
Thank you!

Thank you! That helps a lot. That was my guess, that she/he must be around that.
I posted a picture about him/her before and members said male. I would be happy with that! ( I love her/him anyway)

Then I saw 2 other chams with the same bump and one is male, the other one is female...And I'll get the new, permanent cage in 1-1,5 week. I don't know I should have a laying bin or not?! :)

Sometimes it can look like a spur, but its not.

Females dont have spurs. so if the bump is on both of the ones you saw, then both are male.

ALso, yours is male.

veileds develop barring around 5-6 months old.

Once the big yellow bars show up, youll know for sure.

But based on the thread you linked, its a male.

if you still arent sure, try to get more photos of the feet, and ill be happy to assist you.

Thank you! :) That's wonderful is he is a he! :) He is my first chameleon and I didn't want to deal with eggs, just because I have no cham experience.
Actually yesterday under the green colour I saw yellow. But I didn't know that's a male colour. I post today more pics then as soon as I can! :)
Wow,he must be around 5 months?! I was on the wrong path the whole time... :)
Thank you!

Well females have yellow too, but they have yellow spots.
Males have yellow bars.

here is a pic of a full grown adult male.

Wow! Yes, I can see those!
But females have them as well, right but brown?
That male on the picture is beautiful! Is he yours?

Females have no bars, unless they get stressed and then they can show black barring.

And yes, the male shown is mine. His name is Kink. His bars are normally much more yellow, but its winter here and temps are -1.

and here is an adult female.

you can see the pattern difference between adult males and females.

This is so amazing! Is she yours as well?
These animals are breathtaking! Thank you very much! Now I definitely can see the difference. I will take a picture about HIM :) and show you the light bars (I can see light dots in them). And there are on his head light green stripes as well. I thought first it is just a mood thing, but those are there for about a week now.:)

She was, I sold her to a friend who bought one of the babies from them, so that i could focus on my panther ambilobe project.

we love pics, and its a lot of fun to see them change over time.

So here HE is. :) I have to get use to call him he. :)

Based on the shape of the casque, and what appears to be a spur, you have a boy!

the bars arent in yet, but i wouldnt doubt you'll see bars in another month or so.

Not the best pics. These were taken couple weeks ago, he was only green back then.

Sorry to hijack the tread but after reading this it made me question if all male veilds get yellow bars?My male is about 8 months very distinct barring and spurs but no yellow. His colors are usually somewhat dark but I don't think it's stress related. He eats and drinks and eats more. he's very active in his enclosure and during free range. His color however look brighter while he sleeps his bars turn more into alight lime green.Anyhow my question remains will theses bar turn yellow?

They can vary a bit. Some are more copper and orangeish, some more tan. Yellow is the most common, I'd say. Sometimes you can bring them out into natural sunlight and you will see the bright yellows and greens (and teal and others) really show.

Thanks for the reply he is very bright while sleeping however he does have more of a teal color than yellow I just love thr bright yellows I've seen in a lot of the pics hopefully he turns more yellow but if not he's still one cool Cham
