Communal Chams

Besides Pygmies, are there any other Chams who are okay to house together? Just something that I was curious about lately. :)

I had a pair of Brookesai Superciliaris housed together until I lost the female due to egg bound. Of course they are just a tad larger but still pgymy's.

Those are awesome looking pygmys! I would love a pair of those. :)

I have a few chams that can be housed together. I have 2 female Trioceros goetzei that are housed together, a pair of Trioceros ellioti, and my two pairs of tenuis can also be housed together, even the males. However the thing about housing animals together is being able to tell if one is stressed. I like to get experience on the species and single animals themselves housed singly before I put them together. Its hard to tell if each one is eating and drinking equally to the other or others and you really need to be able to tell if one is stressed or not.

comunity housing

like cainschams says, there are some species that house together better than others, and i think xanths are probably on that list. but its important to remember, that chams are wild animals and are not necessarily the same or good candidates based on species alone, much like you could have two german shepards, that doesnt guaranty that they will both have the same personality, so you first need to have the experience to know what to look for, and then you need to judge on a individual basis. two chams that might never get along in a med. cage, might get along just fine in a extra large cage. sometimes you can reduce the stress level by giving them each their own basking feeding and watering spots, but then , if you are going to do that, you might as well give them each their own cage. my advice would be to make sure that you have a long term handle on keeping them housed individually, before attempting to house them together. jmo ps sorry about the spell check just installed a new browser and havent figured out how to turn it off yet

I figured that. I was just kind of curious if any chams are known for being able to be housed in pairs, like pygmys are. Or even which ones could be. Like Veileds and Panthers can't for sure.

I had read somewhere on the web about another cham that could be housed with others but I forgot which one, and of course, can't find it now lol!!:D

another forum member has kept pairs of jacksons successfully, and i have kept pairs of females together for periods of up to 6 months, with no major problems, and have free ranged m/f pairs with no major problems, but i just find the individual cage more convenient. its so much easier to dial in a given cage for one, than it is for two. and its so much easier to control a given animals enviroment, when its a confined space, tailored just for them. thats not to say that it cant be done long term successfully. jmo
