COMPACT UVB light question?

Hi guys, my name is Li and I am going to get a chameleon. I am currently doing lots of research and trying to figure out what is safe and what will be best for my chameleon. I am getting the mesh enclosure set up and making sure everything is ready for him when he gets here at the end of the month.

Anyways, I have a fluker lamp that I want to use to put my UVB bulb in. I got this bulb at petco (don't worry... I will most certainly NOT be getting my cham from there...). Now, I've read a lot of bad things about compact bulbs making chameleons go blind so that is why I want to clarify this.

I have the 13 Watt "REPTILE UVB 100" and it says former REPTI GLO 5.0 Compact.

Should i or should I not be using this thing? I heard there is the reptisun 5.0 tube light that may be better. Thank you for helping me out guys.

Welcome to the forums. It's nice to see people here doing their research before they get a chameleon. The coil bulbs are suppose to be safe now but I still read on here where a few senior members still have problems with them. Here's a fairly recent thread about the problem. https://www.chameleonforums.com/my-baby-cham-keeps-getting-worst-128062/

Personally, I would not use one. You might find my blog for new keepers helpful.

I have already read a lot of your blog on these forums as well as from many others so I was very excited to see that I am actually getting help from such a knowledgeable source. All I want is for my chameleon to be comfortable as soon as possible when he arrives so I very much appreciate your help and knowing there are people on here that I can actually get help from. I just really wanted to make sure that this bulb and lamp that i bought were what i thought they were before I replaced them.

Knowing what I know how, I'm certainly not going to take the risk of blindness or any kind of eye problems and go with the Reptisun 5.0. Thanks for the help!

Save your self allot of time and trouble and purchase Arcadia bulbs you can contact me 973 563 9097 or [email protected] when you know what cham you are getting and how your set up will be. C.P.L'S or compact florescent lights are a bad idea Even now the bulbs say safe but I use meters and measure lights all day believe me when i say ARCADIA is the way to go. view lightyourreptiles.com for pics and info.
