Concern ???

Update on my light and Flash

Dr. Frances Baines sent me a note and a report will follow.
The R-Zilla fixture I had was a "bad bulb/fixture."
I will be able to explain more when the report comes in, but apparently the UVB emitted from the bulb when used falls "outside the safe and acceptable" range for long-term use.

Anyone using any older R-Zilla units might be wise to check them with a UVB meter or replace them with a repti-sun 5.0. I have done that myself and Flash seems fine with that set-up.

Flash does seem to have primarily recovered and is undergoing a shed right now.

He has been eating several assorted bugs per day. He never ate tons before all this, but seems content with an assortment of phoenix worms, crickets, butterworms and he has even had a few small hornworms. I am trying not to over-feed him. Besides the shedding (it is amazing to watch him scratch
his underarms/legs) he seems content and happy.

His stools and urate appear normal and healthy, he is basking and drinking normally, and he is just showing some hints of color on his legs/face.

I will update this thread with pictures when I have the actual UVB Test results to discuss as well.

Thanks,
Howie

Flash today

Here are a few pics of flash as he is today. :)

FLASH appears to be fine today. He is now about 4.5-5 months old.
He shows colors that vary from pinks and lime green to deep green-blue hues.
He did sustain one scar along his back - a direct result of the "bad wavelength" uv emitted by the R-Zilla bulb. He eats and drinks well, urinates and deficates normally/regularly, and seems to be growing slowly and steadily.

I have been asked by Dr. Baines to hold off on copying the results here until a report has been provided to R-Zilla. Dr. Baines has now documented at least 150 assorted cases of chams and other reptiles being burned, blinded or worse by some of those bulbs, and has been in direct contact with folks at the company. Once the report is released to them I will post the results here.

What I can say is the T5 series bulb I used was emitting spikes of low end UVs and very high spikes at the high end UV. Dr. Baines is convinced that had I not listened to Dave Weldon and removed the light, Flash's exposure likely would have been much worse and possibly lethal.

Thanks for following along with this thread and Flash's development. I know bumping threads is often frowned upon, but I have been asked to continue to post/update Flash's condition here by Dr. Baines and R-Zilla. I will release the actual test results and put them in a post and close the thread as soon as possible.

Howie
