I bought a male veiled chameleon in January the guy said he was a year old this Feb, but my cham seems too small compared to the others I have seen, He is approx 6 inches from nose to vent? Any opinions would be appreciated.
Veileds vary in size. THis can be due to genetic reasons such as small parent or it can be environmental due to lack of feeders or poor care. One think I can tell you is that he is probably not growing yet. The babies I hatched in July 08 are still growing, or at least did alot of growing from their first year to 18 months.
Amy is around the same age and she is 6 inches snout to vent too. They never actually really stop growing - it just slows down (like food intake) so we don't notice growth, hence why they continue to shed as adults. Tommy is somewhere between 1 and 2 years old and is 7 inches snout to vent and his tail is almost another 8 inches on top! Males have a more 'fish like' body shape and are thinner than the females.
