Contest Anonymity

I don't think any divisions or anything should be made in the contest. It is a contest for the

Definition of contest:
con·test (kŏn'těst')
n. 1. A struggle for superiority or victory between rivals.
2. A competition, especially one in which entrants perform separately and are rated by judges. See Synonyms at conflict.

I do not compete in art competitions because I can not draw. I dont race cars because my car isn't very fast. There are a lot of competitions and if you can't compete than dont.

Asking for people to be taken out of a competition because they have a better camera than you is like me going to a Nascar race in a Ford Focus and expecting them to make it to where no one can race me unless they have a car the same as mine.

Exactly :)

It's completely possible to take an amazing picture with ANY camera. In the end the best picture will win. Nothing is stopping you from taking an amazing picture except yourself. The picture of your pygmny BB was a great picture. People vote for the pictures they think are great, not for the prettiest chameleon. (Or atleast I don't.)

p.s. on the actual topic lol
I think anonymity is an excellent idea. I've never voted based on who took the picture but I can understand how other people might.

If you want to keep this contest fair, I respectfully suggest a rule change to disallow members commenting on their photo prior to the contest being finished.
It could also hurt their chances of winning as well though. Some people may find that obnoxious/self promoting, and not vote for the photo because of that reason. ;)
It's not Obnoxious when every member is doing it.

I don't think many members are actually doing this. If we prevent people from posting in the forums about their contest entry, should we also ban all discussion of contest entries? Should members also not be allowed to post photos of the same animal in the gallery, their albums, or the photography forum? How will this be enforced? At what point should a contest entry be removed due to its discussion in the forum? If a member posts info/photos of a chameleon in the health forum that also happened to be a contest entry, should their entry be removed? What if voting had already started?

I'm skeptical that full anonymity can be achieved in an open member voting system. New members might be clueless, but established active members will recognize some entries. Established members are also more likely to talk to others via pm or outside of the forums. Could this ultimately just create a disadvantage for the new or less popular members?

From a technical aspect, making the contest completely anonymous would be a challenge. It is possible but would require either a new contest entry/upload system or some ugly hacks. Currently each photo in the gallery is linked to a member.
