Converting Audio Cabnient into Chameleon Cage?

I have never gotten a grow light, but now I know what you mean. If they are linear I guess it wouldn't hurt.

I might just try to see how it does without the grow light for now.

I found a Schleffera today (umbrella plant) at HD that would work perfect for my enclosure, but it's not tall enough, so looking for other options.

Even in the lower light plants, I notice a gradual deterioration of plant health. If you want to keep the plants healthy and not have to mess around with the cage when you already have a chameleon in it, a grow light is a good idea.

Just get s dual fixture shop light from lowes or hd. If you want to get more light out of the fixture you can line the inside of it with aluminum foil. Its a cheap way to make the inside of the fixture have a reflector. There are numerous people on this forum who use this method. Get your one uvb bulb and get one linear tube plant bulb. then your set except for a heat source.

I have a clamp fixture for the heat lamp, using a 100w bulb probably since that's what worked last time I had a cham.

Why are dual fixtures bad? Someone else said they're not ideal.

I have used the plain old shop lights for years and never had any probs. So i truly don't know what hes talking about. I usually just hang mine over the cages an inch above the top. If you have two 2Ft cages you can use one light fixture to illuminate both cages. Helps for people with lots of chams. I liked hanging my lights from the ceiling because I can use the chains for clamping my heat lights and move them up and down the chain to adjust the basking temp in the cage.

Thanks for the idea, I do live in an apartment so I have to see about hanging the lights, but it sounds like a good idea.

I got sidetracked today with my webstore I am opening, I am hoping to get it treated this week though.

Now it's starting to look like a chameleon enclosure, got the side and top cut, contemplating if I want to cut the back off or not since it will be up against a wall, and I took the plywood off the sides for now so I can figure something out.

I built a shelf below to give more support to the weight of the planter, it's plastic but with dirt and river rocks on top I don't want to risk it. For drainage I am placing a small bucket underneath the shelf, the planter has holes in the bottom, and I cut a hole through the shelf for the water to drain through.

Sorry for the quality, old cell phone.

I didn't realize you were going to take the walls off...that's a very, very good idea...While you will always need to be "water wary" I think you can make this work....how cool for you! As others have noted, having a personally constructed chameleon enclosure is better than buying a perfect commercially produced enclosure...made by YOU is always more valuable.

Looks good. Jmo but i would seal the inside. Then i would use some aquarium sealent and seal all those corners. So far it looks good.

Already bought some, going to seal around the corners.

Thanks! :D

Organic fertilizer free soil with no clumps of stuff at all if you aren't covering it. Otherwise, river rocks or screen work well.

I am covering it with river rock, not looking to spend a lot on the soil so is just plain old soil with no additives fine?

I wouldnt mess w/soil bro. Its more headaches than its worth. Maintanence is a pain in the rear. Go bare bottom or river rocks much easier to keep it clean.
