Cool cham down?

Hello, I just caught my veiled underneath her new uvb bulb. she climbed up her screen and was just hanging underneath the light. i scolded her for this and took her out to make sure she was alright. she was gaping a lot at first, but now shes started to do it only once every few minutes and not opening her mouth as wide. is there a safe way to help her cool down if she gets overheated again?

I usually give my girl a mist when she's too hot. She has a drink then runs away, and thus moving from the hot spot it doesn't happen often, usually when the room is very warm.

uvb lights don't give off heat unless you are using a combo uva/uvb. If it is just a uvb they are usually pretty cool to the touch so she should not be overheating from that.

Starting to gape after they've been basking a while is normal. As you get to know her you'll notice that she will probably move on her own shortly after she starts gaping. Gaping is one way they cool themselves off, and as long as she has cooler areas to retreat to she probably will. And no, fluorescent UV bulbs don't give off that much heat.

it definitely wasnt hot under the bulb, but it was warm. i guess too warm for her =/ she did a good job cooling herself off and i havent seen her go near the uvb again yet. i sprayed her leaves and she drank a little i think. im not sure she likes me to watch her drink.

Just a little reminder about "warm". Its relative. To you, a mammal with body temp 97.6 F, warm will be a higher temp than that. For a herp who's body temp reacts to the environment warm is very different. That's why you need to trust a good temp gun not your hand to judge it.

i have a digital thermometer with a probe sitting right where she usually sits. it was reading about 76 or 77, so it was probably a little more than warm sitting right under the bulb.
