Cool, Mantis hatched this morning.

So cool. My first ever mantis oothe hatched this morning. Kept this one inside warm. @ more are outside for later.

Isn't that just the most fun? Even if I had nothing to feed them to I would love hatching and watching them.

Yes, I did make the mistake of opening the top unprepared. LOL. I endeded up with tops off the mantis and fruit flies at the same time. I'm still finding them in the house. They are luck cause they get put outside.LOL

How many of those lil guys usually come out?
And how much do the ooths usually cost?
I think my veiled would love those=P

Depends on where you get them, what kind and when. Keep a check on the food boards and you can get a good deal. Most of the time the oothes are around 20.oo but I got these from a member cheaper. You can also try your local garden center. All I can say about the numbers is "A LOT" lol sorry didn't try to count.

I have bought from a couple members here. Ooths cost a bit, take a while to hatch, and are loads of fun for you and your cham. Go to the classified and look at the food section.
You could also post in the classifieds wanted section that you are looking for them.

Better off with Chinese. Carolina's have a high die off rate in first stage. Are you keeping as pets, or feeders? Chinese, Egyptian, and African twigs work best for me, as mantis for baby chams.

Feeders fer sure, maybe a few to gawk at=P
But my guy is around 7-8 months.

Then you have about 2 to 4 months of mantis raising before you have a meal. Unless of course you have a 7-8 month old pygmy.

It doesn't take to much knowledge to breed them. Their like Veils. With alot of effort placed in reproduction of the next generation.

Funny little creatures. My first ever oothe hatched yesterday. I had 3 in a quart sized deli cup and was amazed at how many there were in that cup!

It's pretty cool to feed the baby mantids fruit flies. It's a good thing mantids aren't the size of bears, or we'd be an endangered species.
