It's something horrendous that guys have. It's usually contagious and transmitted through touch. Stay away if you suspect someone has it.

Cooties is a term children use refering to something that is bad, dirty, gross etc. For example children will often refer to another person as having cooties like saying "don't touch him (or her) they have cooties" , it is not a real word, it is just slang.

Thankfully, males do not carry cooties. Only females carry them. Highly contageous- and you can pretty well assume that if you get them, then your elementary school life is over!




Cooties is an American and Canadian slang term generally used by children to denote an unspecified state of repulsion, particularly towards another person, usually of the opposite sex ("Ugh, she has cooties!") Originally the term meant body lice, but over the generations this became generalised first to any sort of lice, including head lice, then later still to purely imaginary stand-ins for just about anything that is considered repulsive.
