Cost of bugs these days...

I just spent$86 on bugs..

Plus all the bugs that I've been buying for the past month.. Not just for Kuzco, but for Jared's girl Bella as well...

Frustrated, he can go spend $200 on a remote control helicopter, but I get stuck paying for bugs like every day. And he makes more than me... I can't afford to feed her and his birds and my baby.. The only one I am responsible for is my baby, but I don't want Bella to go hungry or not get properly fed... He loves them to death, but he just isn't as responsible as I feel like he should be..

Needless to say, I'm pretty grr about the situation, and now am going to breed my own bugs, or attempt to.

Bella averages like 100 small crickets a day. Kuzco eats 15, plus some worms... Guess who my favorite is :p

But yeah, I'm annoyed >.<

If Jared owns one of the animals, Jared should pay for its upkeep.

beyond that, Paying for food is part of owning a pet, not something to complain about. But you might try breeding a few types of bugs for yourself, to reduce costs. Roaches, blue bottles, silkworms, superworms and crickets are pretty easy to raise.

I know he should.
And I wasn't complaining about paying for Kuzco's food, that's 100% my job, I just get tired of taking care of other people's creatures..

I bought i think 600 crickets, 30 hornworms, 300 reptiworms, 50 butterworms and 25 silkworms. So, if I do this right, I'm set for life. :p

I was wanting to try roaches but SPF's website is down, and they are my usual buggie dudes so I had to go to Linda'sgonebuggie.

I love both sites, but I have found that SPF is a little less expensive.

In my opinion if I was to pay for other peoples pets food because they weren't doing so, I would tell them, that i wouldn't be doing it and that if he doesn't pay for the food you are going to find it a new home. Those animals of his aren't your responsibility, they are his, if he has no interest in them than it's time for them to find a new home.

I agree with previous posts. I would tell him that he is going to have to start footing the bill for his animals' food or find them new homes, bc you can't afford it. That is really unfair of him to buy toys and stuff, leaving you to buy the necessities. Not trying to bash him or anything, but he needs to start pulling his weight! I would talk to him about it, for sure!

He is absolutely in love with her, he just doesn't get that I'm not made of $$ and would once in a while like to spend a little bit of money on me. I've tried telling him, so now I'ma keep tabs. ;)

Why soo many? I understand they are "small", but still. And yes, it gets expensive!

She's fat. She's a bearded dragon too, so she is supposed to be offered 3x a day until i think 6 or 7 months from what the beardie forums guys told me.

I agree, actually I'm going to make him a budget because a.) I only get like 10hrs a week, and he makes like 400$ a week, and b.) what if I want to buy toys too??

I love him to death I'm just very urked at him atm. Especially since his eats the majority of the food!!

Wait, Jared is eating the bugs?!? :p

If you have a reptile show in your area go there and get bulk size crickets! Last Saturday I low on crix so I went and bought 1000 1/4 inch for $9. Hornworms and roaches were cheap too. I got 1000 crix, 1 hornworm cup(15 worms), and 50 medium and 50 small roaches for a total of $25.
Shows are the way to go IMO

The sponsor on here ghanns? (Spelling) has great deals on crickets and other bugs! We are going to start ordering from him from now on! :)

I would suggest you deal with the individual privately, and not on a forum, it appears as if you are bashing him publicly, which is not helpful.....;)

Culturing Horns, Blue Bottle Flies, and Reptiworms is not feasible for most of us; too much time for the results.

Butter Worms can't be cultured, they are sterile.

Crickets can be cultured, but the stink stops most of us from doing it. You can get 1,000 Banded Crickets from Ghann's Crickets in any size, for a landed cost with shipping of 4-5 cents per cricket. The Banded Crickets last much longer, and don't smell as bad as the regular domestic Cricket.

You can hatch silk eggs, but again, the time may not be worth the result.

Culturing reptiworms is easier than roaches!
