Crickets cannibalizing even with gut-stuffer

well, I noticed one of the crickets in the separate cage had died and was about to remove it when the others rushed over to the corpse and began eating it before I could remove the lid, I know for most species of animal it's not healthy for cannibalism, are they worse for the taste or nutrition for it?

Hydration, hydration, hydration. Your crickets are not having enough moisture so they are finding it in the only places they can. They are doing this to survive not because they enjoy it. Get water crystals, chunks of potatoes, fresh, orange slices, some form of water.

what are you using to feed your crickets?? they usually only do that if they are starving for nutrients..

What are good food items for crickets and roaches?

I use dry gutload cricket food along with veggies, kale, spring mix, carrots, and some small amounts of dried fruits..also sprinkled with calcium...

and for water i mist them once a day, and have a shallow bowl with folded paper towels for moisture..

you dont have to breed like i do or have such a big cricket bin..but im sure you get the idea..

Crickets are very oppurtunistic and are natural foragers. They can have a full dish of water, a head of turnip greens, half an apple, an orange and 4 ounces of dry gutload in their bin, but if they come across a dead commrade, he is suddenly on the menu. It's just how they are. They're going to clean up the dead regardless.

Ive noticed this alot with my crickets that they almost always cannibalize each other even when there is food around. Dubia roaches also do it but it's so rare ive had the same batch of roaches from May and only like 2-3 of them have been cannibalized. It's annoying when you go check the crickets the next day n theres leftovers fruits and veggies and crickets eating each other -_-

wow..maybe im luckey but i dont seem to have this issue..maybe im feeding off all the large ones before they are dying??

I think it's an overcrowding issue. the die off has been significantly smaller since I got the crickets in a 10 gallon tank instead of the original smaller tank they were in.
