Curly willow branches?

Hi, ive just noticed that we have a curly willow tree in the garden, which the branches look like they would suit my young veileds for climbing on.

If i snip some branches off, NO LEAVES, leave them to dry out, will these be fine? i dont see why not, but thought i would ask just incase.

Ive often wondered about willow branches, there common in florists shops and very cool looking. I would think if they came from your yard they should be fine, unless you spray your plants with any chemicals, ferts.,etc.

Hi james, yeah nothing gets sprayed in our garden, they look so ideal climbing on, i wouold wash them first etc, but wondered about them being poisonous etc.

We used them for a while but noticed they mold on you after a short while (few weeks). They will still grow the the fuzzy buds, albeit much slower than if the branch were still attached to the tree. :p

We opted for more permanent options.

I have used willow, for a short time. I found it changed colour quickly and that prompted me to remove it.

For a similar look, use contorted filbert aka urly hazel aka Harry Lauder's walking stick (Corylus avellana).

i currently use willow branches in my set up they were cleaned and dried before they went in and i havent noticed any color change in them as of yet, make sure u clean them down with a vinegar/water mix then bake them in the oven until they are fully dried , this works with most branches due to it being the "sap" like material thats inside fresh branches being the toxic potential for your chams.

What temperature

what temperature would I bake the branches at???

I never bake mine. I cut straight off tree wash really good. Rinse two times last set in sun for few hours. Better off if you leave bark on. I use maple and oak. I also do bioactive so I through leftover pieces in bottom of cage

First thing Mr Puff did when we introduced him to his new home is go straight for a nub on a stick and gnaw on it.
He is ... a bark biter 😅 And a branch licker. (i hear licking branches is normal for panthers)
We had to power wash all the bark off our newly selected branches to ensure he didn't try swallow any of it.

If you take bark off when they get wet they are slick. I have 2 panther they licks all the time. They chew once in awhile on dead leafs and stuff. But I still leave bark on give them a place to rub on and help shed also better grip
