Custom Cage Questions

I'm thinking about making a custom cage for my Veiled Cham. He's in a 18x18x36, and I know he needs bigger set up(2x2x4). The problem, however, is that it is dry here--I live in Michigan--during the winter and I am having *nightmares* keeping the humidity up. Right now plastic is covering three of the sides, and even with a dripper and 7(!) sprays a day I cannot keep it up efficiently. So, I'd like the new cage to have some sides be plastic/glass or some other substance which will, at the very least, stop the enclosure from so easily drying out(I know it will, it has to, but I'd like to limit it if possible).

What sort of paneling can I use on the sides?
As far as treating the wood, or whatever I use to hold up the enclosure, what works best *and* is safe?

I have other questions, but for now I really just need to know what I can use to cover 2-3 sides of the enclosure with. Glass does agitate him, so what would be a good idea?

Thanks in advance.

You can use regular wood, such as particle board or something nicer, as long as you treat it and seal it with suitable materials. I would recommend silicone for the corners, especially along the bottom, to keep water from leaking out. For something that dries safely, simply go to your nearest home depot or lowes and ask them for the same stuff that'd be used to seal up decks or something similar, and specify that once it dries it needs to be non toxic. Typically the staff there can point you towards what they have on hand that will work, anything that is safe for a dog or cat to lick or interact with will work for you as well.

Hope that helps!

I originally purchased a reptibreeze 18*18*36 cage for my vieled last summer but I am planning on buying him a 24*24*48 3/4 wood 1/4 screen cage from cage company. here is a link to the company but be prepared to spend some $$$. They charged me the same for an all screen as they did for my custom build with free shipping.

the one I purchased is on the very bottom, the arboreal screen home for $195. I also asked for a couple of drainage holes on the bottom with a screen filter in between so no feeders (and more importantly my cham) dont fall through and escape. I hope this helps you out. :)
