Custom Dripper Question

Okay, hopefully someone will be able to answer this. I made my own custom dripper out of a distilled 1 gallon bottle.
Basically it hangs off the wall, and the tube comes through the bottom and to the top of the cage.
On the way it runs through a shutoff valve, and then at the dripper end it uses an adjustable button dripper.
Works wonderful until it runs out of water, when i refill the jug gravity doesn't do its job, it will not drip unless i suck the water through the whole line to the dripper.
Any idea why that would happen? I don't mind refilling the container just hate having to prime it basically.

do you have a lid/cap on the jug? If so, unscrew it so that the water is exposed to the atmosphere. If it is on too tight, water will not start flowing without some outside force.

Only thing I can think of. If not, it must have something to do with your valve.

Probably pressure. Try this, open the tap and blow into the tube as hard as you can. Because air rises, the gallon container should fill with air and once you stop blowing should have enough pressure to force the water through the hose. Hard to describe really but I hope you get what I mean.

Im sure you dont need to use a gallon of water per day though, unless your trying to get your cham to grow fins and gills! lol.

Haha okay, so no lid on the jug, and no i don't go through that much water a day just using that kind of jug. Any other ideas since there is no lid on the jug?

You can still have a lid on to make sure dust and other matter does not get in. Just don't make it airtight - or else you created a vacuum and you won't have any flow. Just have it loosely sit on top or loosely threaded.

I have had this same problem with mine. All have holes in the caps but the problem still occurs.

Does anyone have any scientific input on this ?
