DARK Colouration for Andrew

Hi Everyone:

I received my Ambilobe from Chroma 2 days ago (beautiful animal), and poor Andrew is having a stressful time. He is displaying a rather dark colouration. As this is my first "mail-order" chameleon, I was wondering if this is normal, and how long I can expect this to last.

He is eating and drinking fine.

He is probably just stressed out from being shipped and being in a new environment, give him about a week to settle into his new home. If hes eating and drinking, he should be fine

He might also be cold too, turning darker to absorb some extra heat.
Not too sure on your setup specifically, but letting us know what temps you have might also help out.

The basking spot is right around 85-90 with his perch placed about 6-inches from the top of the cage. He is a sub-adult (7-months) and is in a 18x18x36 enclosure. There is also a UVB 5.0 bulb, again, with a perch 6 inches from the top.

Is the reptisun one of the tube lights or compact coils? I'm guessing you have the tube light, if you have a compact coil switch it out asap because they are known to cause eye problems.

Yes it is a reptisun - My guess is that he is still stressed, but this is my 6th cham, (first in 6 years) and Ive never had this colouration scare before.

I just left you a PM , then saw this thread. Looks like all the bases are covered. If he is eating and drinking well , then it sounds like it is just gonna take a little time. Any chance he is within view of anything threatening or super colourful , such as bright wall colours?

Any chance we can get a photo?

Harry from Chromachameleons (see the post above) is super helpful, even for not customers! Don't hesitate to send him emails or messages when you have a concern, as i believe he even replies emails while sleeping, driving, eating, doing sports, etc!

Also, don't forget to NOT handle your chameleon for the first few days. Leave it into his enclosure, try not to approach the enclosure, and don't change or move anything into the enclosure. Stay as far as you can from him and his enclosure, and give him a few days. Of course, cup feeding it or leaving a few crickets into his enclosure is fine, but nothing more than that and watering!
